David Joseph Mitchell M.D.

David Joseph Mitchell, M.D., age 84 was born November 12, 1928 in Dallas, TX and died May 11, 2013 at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. He is survived by Patricia Nicholls Mitchell, his loving wife of 32 years. Father of Cheryl Saunders (Florida) and the late Karen Elizabeth Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell and Phillip Mitchell. Grandfather of Jennifer Saunders and Mark D. Saunders and stepfather of Stewart Rembert, Stephen Rembert, Nanette Bordelon and Patricia Angelotti. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Downey Mitchell and Joseph Nunenmacher and stepfather Charles Mitchell. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School, class of 1945. He earned the Doctor of Medicine Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Class of 1954. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. After practicing general medicine several years, he returned to LSU, completed a residency in psychiatry and practiced at the West Jefferson Mental Health Center, where he served as Medical Director until retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Active Staff of Southern Baptist Hospital. Travel, bridge and golf were his passions.
Visitation at 10:30 am on Thursday May 16th , 2013 at St. Stephen Church, Good Shepherd Parish, 1025 Napoleon Avenue, followed by a Memorial Mass. Donations to charities of your choice encouraged.
