David A. Owen, age 67 of Mankato, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Mayo Health System in Mankato.Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Interment will be in the Medo Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Friday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service, at church.David Allen was born on May 1, 1940, in Mankato, Minnesota to Lyle and Orvilla (Norris) Owen. Dave graduated from Pemberton High School in 1958, and went on to attend Mankato State University. He was united in marriage to Shirley L. Lust on June 3, 1961 at Medo Lutheran Church in Medo Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Dave and Shirley lived most of their married life in the Mankato and Pemberton area. Early in his career Dave worked with his father in the family business, Owen Oil and Gas in Pemberton. Later he worked in sales with Hunting Elevator in Pemberton, Midwest Realty in Mankato, and various other agri-businesses in the area. He was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Mankato. In his youth, Dave was an avid basketball player, and member of the 1957 Pemberton High School state tournament team. Throughout his life he loved participating in, and watching all sports. He most enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mankato; by his two sons, Jeff Owen and his special friend Jennifer Klein of Mankato, and Chad Owen and his special friend Nicole Dimmel of Mapleton; by his seven grandchildren; by his siblings, Beverly (Duane) Engel of Janesville, Donald (Carol) Owen of Mission, TX, Dale (Shirley) Owen of Atwater, MN, and Dean (Darlene) Owen of Fergus Falls, MN; by his sister-in-law Leta (Tony) Alleven of Winnebago; by many nieces and nephews and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; by his step-mother, Edna Owen; by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Rosalia Lust; by his brother-in-law, Ray Owen and sister-in-law, Helen Malecha.

I'll never forget 'Disco Dave' and all of the fun times together; he was my Mankato dad. I really had hoped to come and pay my last respects to a great guy and his family. My deepest sympathy.
