Dear David - Today would have been your 84th birthday... Before your last surgery you said what a full life you had had & that there were no regrets. You weren't one to measure what others had or had not done, but what you were able to do for others. You did not let anyone or any organization down; always there to support, guide, entertain, uplift & inspire, and to provide pure love. So many of us benefited from your quiet, selfless leadership. Few folks like you. Please know that I miss your being on the other end of that phone line. There is comfort knowing that God has brought you home & that you are together with Paul. I'm holding on to all those life's questions I have til we meet again....

David was always there for anyone who needed his help or advice especially those in the Philadelphia Ad community. He was selfless in giving his time to anyone who needed it. David was one of the most respected people in the industry among his clients as well as his clients. They don't make them like David anymore. He is missed

It was always a joy to see David at an event. He was a supporter of so many of his fellow performers in the community and often became an "agent" for us!

He will be greatly missed.

David hired me when he first opened his agency in Philadelphia and it was a wonderful experience for me. David was the consummate media professional, fair and very funny. We shared a lot of laughs together over the years and Paul joined right in! I even tried to get David to go into business with me in the later years.
When David and Paul moved to Florida I
didn't see them but I often thought about the good times we had together. They don't come any better. He will be missed.

Dear David - you impacted so many people during your marvelous life and career. Quiet guidance by example & very high standards, always tempered with a lot of love.
Your great sense of humor, gracious smile, boundless spirit & principled dedication will stay with me always.

Thank you for standing up for so many, for giving of yourself so selflessly & for the significant role you played in guiding my life.
The beauty of your voice never faltered. It rings out most joyously from heaven, with Paul and the angels by your side.

My life would not have been complete if I had not met David when I joined The Gulf Coast Men's Chorus in 2000 and continued to sing with them throughout the years. Like David, I had served on the board of directors and always looked to him for guidance as did many. He was always so kind and considerate of others. My husband Duvan and I have enjoyed many years knowing David. We have spent many outings together whether at our house for dinner, birthdays, pride celebrations, or even going out for a night on the town we could always count on David to be there. We will always cherish our time together my dear friend. Love always and forever.....

Paul was my blood cousin but you were my cousin also. I loved you both equally all these many long years. You were the best family members anyone could possibly have. I have so many pictures and memories of you to keep me happy til we meet again.

Life blessings come in all shapes and sizes. Friendships too. Dave Phillips and Paul were among the most precious and trusted friendships of our lifetime. No pretense, no secret agendas, no hidden thoughtsjust pure, open, heart-felt friendship. John and I built a quick, early friendship with Dave & Paul when they lived in the Philadelphia area. We skied together in the winter (or certainly tried to!), we rented a huge Lincoln Continental one summer and drove together to Provincetown and stayed in the same room at the Boat Slip, we visited friends in Fire Island another summer, and we visited them in Florida several times when David's cousin Richard was still alive. We always had a blast, never held back on emotions, and shared our various visions of a better, brighter future someday. After Paul passed, we shared Dave's deep sorrow and loss and talked fondly of our amazing past. But David's focus on the future, of making a better world for the next generation never slowed. Our respect and love for him (and Paul) will never end. In our last phone conversation a few weeks ago, it was like nothing had ever changed. David was Davidsame sense of humor, same sharp memory, same beautiful spirthe was just hanging out in a body that was failing him. So rest in peace beautiful manthank you for teaching us how to be proud, to love, to live, and to be great friends. Jim & John

Oh My David. I met you when I volunteered for an Organization, You were sitting in the back of the Jeep when they pick me up at my home. In that one hour ride we knew that we would be friends. We did not know that we would be more then friends we would be family. We did not know then that for the next 50 years you and Paul and Jerry and I would always be part of each others lives.
We will miss you and Paul every day for what time remains of our lives.
We will always love and cherish you both.

I shall miss David dearly. Though our Friendship lasted a brief four years before his passing it was a rich Friendship that I Treasure.....

May 25, 2016

It's been many years since I have worked with David at Elkman Advertising. And many years since we have seen each other. But fortunately, I saw him last year at Jim Gallagher's recognition by the PhillyAdClub. (Or was it two years ago?) I didn't know David was attending and was so happy to see him. Huge hugs. An old friend and co-worker, whose fair and even tempered personality, I always admired. Our clients loved David. It had been forever since David attended an advertising event in Philadelphia, and we joked about neither of us knowing too many of the younger people. David looked about the same to me, with his warm and inviting smile. David loved the ad business, but always mused about opening his hot dog stand in a warm weather climate. I wasn't the first David Lane that David worked with. He co-owned his own agency with the "other" David Lane, and Alvira Golden. The agency, Lane Golden Phillips, was a successful independent regional agency, representing many local blue chip accounts. I feel David and his agency helped to set the foundation for other independent local agencies like ours. I will miss knowing that David is still around. I know many of you will, as well. We've all been richer for knowing David, and I am looking forward to reading other memories of my old friend and co-worker.

Uncle David was a strong presence in our family. His love for all of us was so evident and he made sure to be with us for all major life events, no matter the distance. He will always have a special place in our hearts and we will treasure the great memories together. We find peace in knowing he is reunited with Paul and our beloved grandfather Chick.
