David Preece Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2015.
David Norman Preece, 44, passed away Thursday July 2, 2015 at his home in Pleasant Grove, Utah of natural causes.
He was born March 25, 1971 to Norman Wheeler and Linda Josephine Kunka Preece of Lindon, Utah.
David grew up in Lindon and graduated in 1989 from Pleasant Grove High School where he excelled in academics, football and track. David served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Columbus, Ohio Mission. Upon his return, he attended Brigham Young University where he earned dual bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Computer Information Systems. He was hand-selected to help build the LDS Sunday School Sesquicentennial Time Capsule which is on display in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building at Temple Square until its opening in 2049. David then went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from BYU's J. Rueben Clark School of Law.
David had a robust legal career including work at Knobbe, Martin in California, Kirton McConkie in Salt Lake City, serving as Securities Director for the State of Utah, and at Clayton, Howarth & Cannon also in Salt Lake City before starting his own practice in 2012 in conjunction with Tech Law Ventures in Lehi, Utah and Stevens Law Group of San Jose, California.
David is survived by his parents Norman and Linda Preece, his sisters Lucinda Preece, Laura Carter (Mike), Louise Denton (Tom), Leanna Peterson (Ryan), as well as his former wife Lara Fulkerson, and his three children Hudson, 16, Caroline, 13, and Owen 11. He is also survived by his current wife Claire Marie Woodard and his step-children Hilary, 26, Amelia, 22, Rennen,18, and Daniel, 7.
David was currently serving as the Ward Clerk for the Pleasant Grove Battle Creek 6th Ward of the LDS Church. His church service included Elder's Quorum President and serving as a counselor in multiple bishoprics. His favorite church calling was that of Sunday School teacher to the 14 & 15 year olds. He had a deep love and testimony of Christ and the Church.
David was a powerful force to his family, friends and those he worked with. He was passionate about motorcycling, technology, sports and a slate of hobbies and interests. Above all however, the most important parts of his life were his children.
David's unique and legendary personal gift was the ability to make others laugh and to help them see their own gifts, talents, and beauty. His bold character and loving nature will be profoundly missed by all who called him son, brother, father, uncle or friend.
Services will be held Wednesday July 8th, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Battle Creek 6th ward building located at 825 Loader Drive, Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062. For additional information contact Olpin Mortuary in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

I was shocked and saddened to see Dave had passed away. Life is too short. He will certainly be missed. I had the privilege of going through law school with Dave, and crossing paths with him several times since, as we've both practiced in the IP area.

My condolences to all his family! He will certainly be missed.

Love Dave! I am married to Dave's cousin Scott Preece my High School Sweatheart! I remember hanging with the Preece Boys and later men. They were all crazy, hilarious and rambunctious! My cheeks would ache by the end of the night from laughing so hard. Dave was larger than life, like his beautiful heart!! Scott and I have been telling Dave stories all week up here in Washington. He is loved by so many!! Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave's wife Claire and his children and his parents Norm and Linda!! Wish we could have been there to hug them! We love you Scott and Connie Preece

Dear Norm & Linda, I can't find an address for you to send a card and I tried to phone you. Reed had to go to Wyo for some ranch business so we were not able to attend David's funeral. We are so very sorry for you loss and we can really say that we know how you feel. May Heavenly Father bless you with his peace at this hard time. A quote from Pres. Monson was some comfort to me...." It is imperative that we recognized that whatever has happened to us has happened to others, they have coped and so must we. We are not alone, Heavenly Father's help is near." Talk with others who have experienced the loss of a child too. You can call us anytime. The first year is so hard but the gospel really does give us comfort knowing that its just a moment in time and then we will all be together again. Because you love him so dearly the pain of his loss is so deep. His memories will be so comforting to you. David sounds like such a great person! I wish we had known him. His picture reminds me of a mixture of Uncle Rodney and you Norm. Love Janet and Reed.

I worked with Dave at CHC for as long as he was there. "Big personality" describes him so well. He made you laugh and was so pleasant to be around. I will never, ever forget the morning he came into the office at an early hour wearing this giant motorcycle helmet. I screamed and he thought it was so hilarious. He could always see the humor in things and that was so awesome.

My most sincere condolences to all of Dave's family. He will be missed and never forgotten.

I had the pleasure of working as an intern at Tech Law and got to know David pretty well. i had a Yamaha VMAX at the time and fast CTS-V, and he was never to busy to talk motorcycles, cars or even patents. I was just in last week to talk to him about a patent I filed and he gave me some great ideas for products to develop for Harley's. I could call him a friend, and I will miss him so much. I always dreamed of getting a brand new VMAX and rolling into Tech Law to see the look on his face. What a great guy. I hope they've got bikes and fast cars for you up there Dave.

Norm & Linda,

It has been a long time since our days in the Glendale 3rd Ward and our kayak trips on the Colorado River. 50 years ago in fact. I am so sorry to read of the passing of your son. As I was reading the Deseret News on line, his name jumped off the page, and I said I must know this gentleman, Further reading reveled that it was your son. We are very sorry for your loss. He was certainly an accomplished young man and I am sure you are very proud of him. . Your family will be in our prayers.

Best regards,
