David Scott "Rooster" Rust

With broken hearts and the knowledge that our Heavenly Father will give us strength to endure, the family of David Scott "Rooster" Rust, 48, asks for prayers in our loss. A resident of Ripley, our beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend died tragically on December 23, 2017 in Ripley.

Gravesides Services for David will be at 2 PM Friday January 5, 2018 at the Charity Cemetery near Chalybeate with Bro. Tim Watson and Bro. Brad Watson officiating. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.

A native of Illinois, David was born February 1, 1969, the son of Dora Gossett Casner of Walnut and the late Danny Howard Rust. He received his education in the Sandwich, Illinois Public School System and in earlier years, moved with his family to Walnut where he continued his education. David was an employee of the BenchCraft Corporation and the construction industry for much of his life.

A family oriented person, David enjoyed playing pool, throwing horseshoes, bowling on the family league and just "Hanging Out". He loved gardening with his special friend, Bro. Felix Jones and was passionate about cooking, learning how to can vegetables from his grandmother. His mother said he could make the "most awesome" pizza and biscuits that would melt in your mouth.

David will also be remembered for his love of learning new things, the art and beauty of nature and his free spirited disposition. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation will continue today at The Charity Church one hour before graveside services.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by his step father, John "PoPa" Casner of Walnut, a daughter, Cylena Rust of Corinth, his grandmother, Ruby L. Gossett of Ripley, two sisters, Mary Null (Nathan) and Rebecca Riley, a brother, Johnny Casner (Donna), step sister, Krissy Jones, an uncle, Jerry Gossett , a special aunt and uncle, Kenneth and Earlene Taylor, grandson, Raylan Rust and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Riley , his grandfather, Arthur Gossett and an uncle, Larry Gossett.
