DAVID SANTO Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Jul. 19, 2013.
SANTO
It is with great sadness and an extreme sense of loss that we announce the passing of David Santo. He passed away on July 15, 2013 at the Hospice House in Vernon, British Columbia.
David was born on August 18, 1923 in Kipling, Saskatchewan and was a loved husband, father and a treasured grandfather and great- grandfather. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 62 years Evelyn (Hamilton), his son William (Allison), daughter Sherrill, Raymond Kereluk and five grandchildren Dave (Easton), Mark, Kristen, Jamie and Kelsey and one great-grandchild Dax.
David served in the RCAF during World War II from 1942 until the end of 1944 and completed 34 tours of duty overseas as Navigator in Halifax bombers. He was married his wife Evelyn (Hamiton) in 1951. In 1952, David joined the Air Force again, got his Commission and returned home in 1954. After returning home from the Air Force, David had a career working at the Co-Op Refinery in Regina.
He was a talented woodworker which is a hobby that he took up after retirement. He loved being outdoors, whether it was tending the garden or trimming his trees. He loved spending time on his computer whether it was sending/receiving e-mails or doing puzzles. David very much enjoyed spending time with his 5 grandchildren which usually meant playing at least one game of cards.
We will miss him every day but take solace in the fact that he is no longer in pain and is now our guardian angel.
The Santo family would like to sincerely thank Dr. T. Gilhooly for his years of caring for David and the amazing staff at the North Okanagan Hospice House in Vernon, B.C. for their care and support during the last month of his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the North Okanagan Hospice Society (nohs.ca) or charity of choice. Cremation has taken place and a family memorial celebration of David's life will take place at a later date.

I am sorry to hear about Uncle Dave's passing, but am glad that his suffering is over. I cherish the many memories from my childhood of good times spent with him and the family when we all lived in Regina. Rest in peace, Uncle Dave, your infectious laughter, sense of humour and family values will be missed!

I always wondered who was the person my middle name (David) came from. My parents (Norm & Maryann Santo) told me it was from my fathers cousin, David Santo, who my father deeply respected. It wasn't until I was fourteen that I finally met David and it was memorable. When my father introduced us David gave me a huge smile and immediately stuck out his hand to introduce himself. As a shy 14 year old, he was the first adult male that ever offered me such a greeting and recognition as a growing adult. Over the years I to learned how respectful and caring David was. I am proud to be named after such an honorable man.
