Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 28 to Sep. 3, 2023.
Seattle - On Thursday, July 27, 2023, David T Shereda, passed away peacefully at the age of 89, in Seattle, WA. Born in Czechoslovakia, he came to the US in 1938. He graduated from Va Tech. He worked for 20 years with TVA in Knoxville, retiring as Asst. General Manager.

In his backyard on the Tennessee River, David built a seafaring sailboat, Blackberry. Launching downstream, he traveled with his family for the next 16 years traversing oceans and continents. Blackberry was the first American flagged-crewed ship to sail down the Danube River to the Black Sea. Later, He & Dawn lived & worked at Baptist Theological Seminary in Zimbabwe. In 2001, they moved to Meadows of Dan, VA, where he loved hiking & exploring the mountains. David was known for his humor, humility, curiosity, and thirst for adventure. He sincerely valued every person he met and every step he took. He loved working with his hands, being outdoors, playing his jazz trombone, drawing with pen & ink, reading theology and volunteering with his church & community.

He is mourned by his wife of 62 years, Dawn Shereda; sister Ruth Peaco, children Wendy Van Koevering & Dave Shereda Jr.& all their families.

September 4, 2023

Scott and Ann Brunger send their sincere condolences to Dawn. We, more than anybody else, appreciate David and Dawn's woodworking and building skills because we enjoy living in the unique house they built with their own hands before constructing the Blackberry.
