David Sinclair Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 11 to Apr. 12, 2023.
David Ashton Sinclair, born on July 18th, 1950, went quietly to his rest on April 10th, 2023 at his home in Charlotte, NC.

David was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. His last days were spent with his family enjoying a few quiet and comforting moments together. He died on a beautiful spring morning surrounded by his family. Just the way he would have wanted it.

He was fond of a good story; a gutsy debate; a unique idea; a clever business plan; spending time with those he loved and a cool drink at the end of the day. David was a true Renaissance man - a talented painter, an enthusiastic student of the game of golf, a builder of things, an exceptional companion, a family man and a problem solver. He always responded to his personal challenges with a sense of fairness and never with malice or ego.

David's charisma was evident from the first time you met him. His magnetism resulted in many lifelong relationships. Curiosity about the world and a keen interest in people energized his days. He lived a good life that he celebrated and he will not tolerate our pity or long mourning.

He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Carter Ashton Sinclair and his mother Betty Bush Sinclair. He is survived by his wife Celia Brewer Sinclair; children Robert (Lisa), Kristi, Beau (Alisa); stepchildren Anna Marshall and Sally Spencer Marshall; his siblings John, Dick (Barbara), Bob (Carolyn), Margaret (Mike) Sides; and his many grandchildren who all loved him as "Papa."

A service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road in Charlotte, NC on Saturday April 15th, 2023 at 2:30. A reception at the church will follow.

Because David proudly helped build the first Habitat home while at Koinonia Farm in Americus, GA, we request that memorial gifts go to Habitat For Humanity of the Charlotte Region, PO Box 220287, Charlotte, NC 28222.

John, Dick, Bob, Margaret, was really sad to learn about David's passing. Glenn Fisher (Carol's husband) let me know. I'm at a loss to really convey the importance all of you are in the memories our childhood.
To David's family, losing him so soon has to be heartbreaking. I always picture him strong and alive and living for many, many more years.

When I think of David, I see that unique look he had after a perfectly delivered punch line or a well-considered question. A wonderful storyteller, generous host, lovely human being. It has been an honor to know David. I´ll truly miss him.

My recollections are on the back porch at a cook-out chez Sinclair, with lively conversation. Feeling warmly welcome there, always. On a lighter note, I also "see´ David at the Bridge table: he´s wondering if he and Celia have located the best contract, but he´s not too bothered about it either way. Fun times in the Sinclairs´ loving home.

David laughed easily, asked and answered deep questions, and was truly a good man. We will miss our wonderful dinners with him and Celia.

David was the first of the Sinclairs I met. I worked for him years ago when Sinclair Resources was in the Armory. Over the years, I have met many of the others but David always stood out...kind and patient. It was a privilege to have known him.

Celia and all of David´s loved ones, We only met David on a few occasions on our visits to Mike and Pam, but EVERY time we spoke with him was a delight because he was in the moment, attentive, and often funny! He was and will always be remembered as a breath of fresh air. Our thoughts and prayers are wrapped around in these days. So glad he was able to enjoy the hope of springtime in his own home. Sincerely, David (Al) and Gay Strong
