David Smith Obituary
David W. Smith, 61, of Rockford, passed away on April 6, 2017. He was born on May 26, 1955 in Rockford, the son of James and Rose (Lersch) Smith. He attended Wight, Lincoln, and East High Schools. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1973 to 1978. He served as Postmaster for Stockton, IL from 1991-1993, and Gurnee, IL from 1993 until he retired in 2008. Dave was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing winter golf and traveling with his brother and friends to Hawaii. He also enjoyed watching auto racing and had a passion for classic sports cars. He took a lot of pride in his own collection over the years from Corvettes to Porsche. He is survived by his step-siblings, Annettte Zaugg, Brian (Melanie) Steder, Bruce (Cindy) Steder, Kurt Steder; aunts; uncles; and several cousins. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Clifford and Steven; step-parents; and step-brother, Mark Steder.
A memorial visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford. Military rights will be held at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. To share a memory or send an online condolence, visit olsonfh.com.

I haven't saw you since we were kids but I remember when you came to visit my Grandma & Grandpa (Jim & Hazel Smith) in Arkansas. Rest In Peace cousin!

May his new journey be a great one with the Lord and family.I remember as kids playing ball at Wright school and Churchill park. Some poker and enjoying childhood. RIP friend.
