David Sneddon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 30 to Apr. 2, 2023.
David William Sneddon, 80, passed peacefully at home in Fairview, NC, on March 22nd, 2023, in the arms of his loving wife and life partner, Dorothy. Born March 28th, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, he is survived by his children Eric, Lloyd, Will, Jesse, and Mika, and his beloved granddaughters, Andrea, Kate, and Sara.

His adventurous spirit took him to serve in the US Army and in his many travels he fell in love with European culture and food. As one of the principal partners of the iconic NYC Fairway Market, he helped create one of the most unique food shopping experiences in the world. David's many business interests included restaurant and real estate endeavors. His love of food led him to Italy to the aromatic world of gourmet olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Nothing gave David more pleasure than to cook and share wonderful food-and exotic stories-with his friends.

A lifelong guitarist, David became an accomplished musician and singer/songwriter in his later years. With a sonorous voice, as deeply authentic as his colorful life, he finished an album of his music days before passing away. All who knew David will remember his relaxed generosity and genuine concern for the welfare of others.

A remembrance service will be set at a later date to celebrate David at his NC farm where he loved spending time with his soulmate, Dorothy, their beloved dog Lucy, and the horses that brought them so much joy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and business associates. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Brother Wolf in Asheville, NC, or St. Jude's Hospital.

With deep sympathy for Dorothy and Family! I am so grateful for having shared many joyful memories of music , fun dinners and good time double dating with our guys. It warms my heart to think that David & Dan are now jamming together with their guitars and singing their old tunes over the rainbow. Love and peace

We are so sorry to hear of David's passing. He was a wonderful friend to us. We lived in the same apartment building. Our two sons were the constant playmates of Jesse and Mika. They considered the Sneddon apartment an extension of their own. We have many happy memories of our times together in New York and as his guests at his home on Fire Island. He was such a generous and fun-loving host and a dear, dear friend. We send our condolences to Dorothy and all his children and grandchildren. He will be missed.
