David Treloar Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Apr. 2, 2011.

TRELOAR, David James March 8, 1973 - March 26, 2011 It is with the most profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David James Treloar on Saturday March 26, 2011. David was born in Rockhampton, Australia on March 8, 1973. At three months of age, his parents brought him home to Vancouver and introduced him to his large extended family. When David was eight, his family moved from Port Moody to Abbotsford where David attended school till his graduation from Abbotsford Senior Secondary in 1991. David was a proud member of the Abby Panthers basketball team and the Abbotsford Whalers Swim Cub. David received his BHKIN and BEd from UBC and worked as head lifeguard at the University Aquatic Centre. David taught in Vancouver where he coached basketball teams at Windermere, and this past year at Kitsilano Secondary. In1999 David married Laura Austin and started the family that became the centre of his life. David was a proud and loving father and spent hours at the hockey rink or baseball diamond, supporting his children in their various activities. David leaves a great gap in the life of his wife, Laura Treloar (nee Austin), his three children, Austin, 6, Michaelie, 5 and Aiden, 3. Also mourning the loss of David is his father, D. Michael Treloar; mother Leona Treloar (Rick Johnson); brother Jonathan Treloar (Amber Elderkin); Jonathan's sons Hudson and Ryland Treloar; grandmothers, Elizabeth Treloar, and Helen Borne and his numerous aunts uncles cousins nephews nieces and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather Dr. Earnest James Treloar. A service honoring David's life will be held at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Kitsilano Secondary School, 2550 W 10th Ave. Vancouver BC. As a tribute to David please consider a contribution towards the Trust Fund established for his three children at any TD Canada Trust in the name of Laura Treloar.

Dear Leona, Mike, Jonathan and extended family,
I am deeply saddened to learn that your family has suffered such a painful loss. Memories of our families huddling together at swim meets, and the delight we all experienced at each visit to your home, are etched forever in my heart. Mike and Leona, you provided such warm and loving support to our boys through some of the most significant years of their development. No wonder David is honoured and remembered in the manner that he is!! A shower of blessings to all of you as you struggle through this most difficult time.

Leona, Mike, Jon, and David's extended
family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Just a few weeks ago, quite randomly, I had a memory of Dave joking around at a BBQ after swim practice, and I smiled to myself. I would see Dave from time to time at the Kits gym, or out in the field with his students. A smile and a wave from my childhood friend would always lift my spirits. I am deeply saddened by his loss. You guys were like a second family to me growing up; you always made me feel so welcome in your home. You are in my thoughts.

April 4, 2011

Dear Mrs. Treloar,
My name is Cameron Pegg. I was one of your husband's students at Kitsilano Secondary, in his Grade 10 P.E. Boys Class. I would like to express my condolences for your loss. Mr. Treloar was a compassionate, exemplary human being who loved his job, his life, as well as yourself and the rest of his family. He mentioned you and your kids more than once to my class and I.Know that he has been welcomed into the loving arms of God and that he will always watch over you and your family, and will be ever-present, living on in your hearts and minds. His memory will live on as you always shall remember him, and his achievements will be honored by the things you and your family do from this point on. I may not have known him personally, and may only have been his student, but we would listen when I spoke to him, and noted always that I gave an effort in his class each day, and for that, I will remember him as more than just my teacher. I will remember him as my friend.

Dear Laura,

To the Treloar extended family.

Dave coached my son in basketball this year. He went above and beyond anyone else - advising him on colleges, taking time out to train him privately and always taking the time to offer advice and support when most needed. Two days ago I was given a copy of a beautiful letter Dave wrote to a coach in San Francisco which was instrumental in helping my son get into a great USA college to play basketball - it was typical Dave- generous and filled with an abundance of praise. We will be forever grateful to him for his generosity.

Kirby and I wish to express our greatest sympathy to all of his extended family at this very sad time.

To Mr.Treloar's friends and family,
Knowing him as a teacher was only a small viewing of his fantastic way of life. He made us laugh and we enjoyed having him as a teacher. May he rest in peace, he is watching over us.

Dear Mrs Treloar,
I am truly sorry for your loss. Mr Treloar was a really great tacher! I was one of his PE students at windermere secondary, we had a split class of boys and girls (mostly boys). what I remember the most was that he would alway treat us the same as the boys, we were all equals in that class. He tought me how to push myself and get were I want to be. I know that it seems Mr Treloar only tought PE, but he also tought us to never give up.
In short, Mr Treloar will be miss by all the people he affected around him.
With many regrets,
Brittany L
