David Laurence Trudeau

May 19, 1968 - November 19, 2024

It is with deep sadness that David's family and friends announce his passing, peacefully at home in Granby, Connecticut, on November 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer and a chronic illness. He was 56 years old.

David was the youngest child of the late Philip L. Trudeau and Margaret (Fondacaro) Trudeau. He is survived by his siblings: Catherine Laroche and her husband David, Joni Marino and her husband John, and Philip Trudeau and his wife Christianna (Mullaney). He will be missed by his five nieces and nephews-Lindsey, John Philip, Shelly, Tommy, and Emilee-as well as his uncle Richard Trudeau, aunt Susan O'Connor, longtime friend Barbara Chamberlain, and many others.

Raised in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, David attended Longmeadow High School in the 1980s, where he spent his summers teaching tennis at Smuggler's Notch Resort in Vermont and mountain biking on the local trails. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont in 1990, including a memorable year abroad in Denmark.

During college David took a part-time job at the Vermont Teddy Bear Company, which after graduation became full-time, and his talent for computers advanced him into the IT department. In 1997, he moved to Connecticut to join Avexxis/Circle Commerce, where he worked as a systems programmer until his passing. David was highly valued for his intelligence, analytical mind, and dedication, and he considered his supportive coworkers to be like family.

Three days after his 25th birthday, David was diagnosed with Wegener's granulomatosis, a rare autoimmune disease. Despite this challenge, he faced life with strength, determination, and will to live.

In 2007, David purchased a home in Granby, CT, overlooking a wildlife refuge, where he delighted in observing the parade of wild creatures and exploring the forested trails. He cherished quiet moments at home with his beloved cats and was active in animal rescue efforts. David's love for animals was matched by his passion for technology, cars-especially his Mazda Miata and Tesla-science fiction, and lifelong learning. He was happiest when puttering around the house, whether working on his motorcycle, tending his blue hydrangea bush, or reading a book with a cat curled up by his side.

David was a loyal friend, exceptionally organized, and deeply valued conservation, always mindful to avoid waste. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, problem-solving skills, and devotion to family, friends, and his furry companions.

A service to celebrate David's life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00am at "@ the barn" restaurant, 17R East Granby Road, Granby CT (atthebarngranby.com). Dress: casual. Family and friends are invited to attend and share brief memories of David. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an animal shelter in his honor, reflecting his enduring love for animals.

David's legacy of kindness, intelligence, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.

I started working a Avexxis in 2007 - Dave had already been there for years. One of the first couple years I was there, I was given a Yahoo coffee mug that did the yodel when you picked it up - loudly. I brought it to work and put it on the shelf with the other mugs... It didn´t take too long for someone to pick it up, and they were convinced that Dave had to be the one that put it in there. A little later Dave quietly walked into my office and asked if it put it there. Then we waited... It didn´t take too long until someone who hadn´t been there of the first yodel got hit with that Yahooooo. They also thought Dave was the guilty party! I think there was a third person, and again... thought it was Dave!

We worked together in the mid-90´s at Vermont Teddy Bear. I´m quite sure that David (known to us as "DT") was the first person to tell me I should turn my computer off and back on if I was having trouble. He was the best. So sorry for your loss.
