David Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2024.
Daytona Beach - David E. "Dave" Turner of Daytona Beach FL (formerly of Mount Pleasant PA) passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2024.

Dave was born on January 16, 1947 in Washington DC to Olan E. Turner, Jr. and Bernice A. Turner. He graduated from Springfield High School (DelCo PA) in 1964, Penn State University (BS Business Admin) in 1969, and Temple University (JD) in 1974.

Dave practiced law in Reading PA for 40 years, both independently and as a partner in several firms, most recently at Bingaman Hess where he was a managing partner until his retirement in 2014. Although an experienced litigator and fierce competitor in the courtroom, he made fast friends and was quick to buy a round at the end of a trial.

Throughout his life, Dave was insatiably curious and passionate about his many interests. He was a *vocal* fan of Nittany Lion football. He loved (and tinkered with) art and music of all forms and genres, and was a certified motorhead. He also delighted in nature and was an avid kayaker.

Most of all, Dave loved people. He was friendly, caring, and supportive to his many friends and family in Florida, Pennsylvania, and beyond. He was a consistently active community member across a wide array of churches, recovery groups, HOAs, and charities, including the First Step Homeless Shelter in Daytona Beach FL where he was affectionately known as "Papa".

Dave is survived by: son Matthew Turner, daughter-in-law Christina Turner, and grandson Olan Turner, of Ridgefield CT; daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Turner, son-in-law Steven Eck, and grandson Thomas Eck, of Emmaus PA; son Jacob Turner, of Philadelphia PA; sister Marilyn (Turner) Lesko, of Mechanicsburg PA; and devoted dog Zorro, of Daytona Beach Fl.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent in Dave's name to the First Step Homeless Shelter in Daytona Beach FL: firststepshelter.org

I just discovered that my old friend, fellow Penn Stater and fellow biker is gone. I remember Dave on his Triumph Motorcycle barreling down the roads of State College, wearing his witches hat. "Captain Anemia" I am so sorry to lose my dear friend.
His birthday was Jan. 16 and my birthday is Jan 15.
We always celebrated our birthdays together with others born in January.
It would be wonderful if I could hear back from a family member.
My email address: [email protected] Phone 215-264-9447
Thanks
