David Hazlewood Vandervoort

Paradise Valley - David went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2023. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Henry and Velma. At the age of 14, David learned to fly a Tail Dragger airplane. He was a distinguished Varsity Panther High School golfer and caddie for Ben Hogan at Colonial Country Club. In 1947, David earned the Carnegie Medal for Heroism. David chose to attend

Texas A&M where he was on the golf team and later played for the Air Force. While at Texas A&M, David met his future wife, Susie. Upon graduation, they moved with the Air Force.

In Texas, David worked under his father at their Vandervoort Dairy. The following year, David built a dairy and bottling plant in Tempe, Arizona. David joined the Paradise Valley Country Club and was very successful in many golf tournaments. He was a longtime member of a weekly Bible study group and a leader of Master's Men.

After Suzie passed, David would meet Ruth French and they wed in 2014. They enjoyed traveling, and, especially visiting between Phoenix and his ranch in Alpine, Texas. David was an entrepreneur, a longtime pilot, rancher, and an outdoorsman. He traveled to mountaneous places, over beautiful oceans, autumn forests and loved the blue skies when he flew. David was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, his older brother Henry Carl, wife Susie, and daughter-in-law Mary Vandervoort

He is survived by his four sons, Carl David (Susan), Gary (Rita), Glen, and Matthew (Vicky). His special Granddaughters, Kailey Vandervoort, Stephanie (Nate) Heyenga, precious great-grand- daughter, Lucy Heyenga, and his loving wife, Ruth French Vandervoort. Celebration: Dec 1 @ 10am FCCPhx
