David Wiswall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 29, 2017 to Jan. 11, 2018.
David C. Wiswall, a lifelong resident of Wellesley, passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Upon graduation from Wellesley High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a "Seabee" in the 130th construction battalion, fought for the duration of WWII throughout the Pacific Theatre in such places as Okinawa and was honorably discharged in 1946. He enrolled in Bowdoin College after the war. There he met Barbara Gray and married her in 1948. Graduating in 1950 with a B.A., he went to work at Harold C. Wiswall, Inc., selling insurance and developing real estate, eventually becoming a builder and president of his own business, David C. Wiswall, Inc., and successfully built houses for more than 40 years. Dave and Barb had two children, Steven and Peter, and enjoyed extensive travel, skiing, hiking, camping, sailing and later in life, summers at their cottage in Maine. Dave was a member of the Exchange Club, the Maugus Club and the Miramachi-Renouse Club where he met and made many friends through the years. After being married for almost 50 years, Dave was widowed when Barbara died, unfortunately, in the year 1999. He chose to remarry, marrying Ruth Worrick Tillson, whom he knew since childhood, in 2000. They were happily married for 16 years, celebrating their lives together with family until Ruth sadly passed away in 2016. David was also predeceased by his sister Mary Ann Collinson of E. Falmouth and his son Steven Wiswall of Denver, Co. He is survived by his sister Nancy Erne of Wellesley, his son Peter Wiswall of Natick, his stepdaughter Linda Coutts of Natick, his stepson Scott Tillson and wife Myrna of Antelope, Ca., and his stepson Rick Tillson and wife Kerry of Windsor, Vt. Also by his granddaughter Erin and her husband Luis Escandon of Denver, Co., grandson Cody Wiswall of Denver, Co. and great-grandchildren Sophia and Adrian Escandon of Denver, Co. He is survived as well by his step grandchildren, his step great grandchild, many nieces and nephews and their respective families. David will always be remembered as a true individual, a devoted family man, and exceptional friend and a kind neighbor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Service will be held in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 79 Denton Rd, Wellesley, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 10 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley. To share a memory of David, please visit www.eatonfuner alhomes.com

So sorry to hear this. Dave built a home for my parents (33 Winding River) across the street from his lovely mother, Priscilla. We came to meet and enjoy most of this family. After many years away I have returned to Wellesley and often think of Dave, Barbara and Mary Ann. Very sweet souls that I am grateful to have known.

David constructed a home for my wife and I at 185 Winding River Road, Wellesley. Our family moved there in December 1965. We lived happily there for 32 years. David made it all possible and we thank him for it.
May he rest in peace.

Dave was a meticulous home builder; a generous and hospitable neighbor; a sweet and modest man someone I was lucky to know.
