WOODS David William David William Woods, 47, of Perrysburg, passed away, Monday, November 8, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee. Dave was born June 23, 1963, in Toledo to William and Karen (Kessler) Woods. He married Andrea C. Hiris on March 23, 1990, in Toledo and they later renewed their wedding vows at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. A graduate of the University of Toledo, Dave was a special education teacher at McTigue Middle School in Toledo for the past four years. He was extremely dedicated to the well-being of his students, changing and even saving the lives of troubled youth. Dave was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church, serving on the pastoral council and as the leader of the Junior High Youth Group. He was also an active member of AA. He was energetic, fun-loving and very resourceful, often using discarded items to build something new. Dave enjoyed cooking, running and spending time outdoors. He will be most remembered for the welcoming smile he offered to every person he met. Those left to cherish his memory include: his loving wife, Andrea; daughters, Corey and Kristen; and son, Bradley, all at home; mother and step father, Karen and Bill Cox, Sylvania; sister, Lori (Murray) Gordon, Paoli, PA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sally and Henry Hiris, Elmore; sister-in-law, Lori (Todd) Chamberlain, Toledo; brother-in-law, Jeff Hiris, California; niece, Erin Chamberlin; and nephews, T.J. Chamberlain, Richard and Scott Gordon. Friends will be received from 4 - 9 P.M. on Thursday in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, where scripture services will be held at 7 P.M. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, November 12, 2010, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 A.M. in St. Rose Church. Committal rites and burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Dave's family for the benevolence of his children. Mrs. Woods,
You and your family have my sincerest condolences on the loss of Dave, I have just learned of his passing. It was truly an honor to have him as a student in my course at BGSU this semester. He was passionate about education, his students, but most of all his family. I feel blessed to have known him even over this short time. You are all in my prayers.

To the Woods Family,
My utmost and sincere condolences,
Dave and I met this semester @ BGSU, where we had 2 classes together and were partnered together for various projects. He held a wealth of knowledge and was such a nice guy. He spoke to me about his family (whom he obviously loved), his work and all the students he had taught, his friend(s) from his UT days, and all the things in his life he so cared about- he always had a great story to tell, and I am so glad I got to listen. I was just getting to know him over the past 12 weeks but could already tell that he was a very compassionate person- he will sorely be missed. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to you. I wish I could have paid my respects in person but I just found out today.

To the Woods family,
Dave always had words that helped others. Understanding the loss of a loved one is very difficult, but trusting in God will get you through. Don't rush your grief, we all need our own time and we are all different. Your entire family will be in the prayers of many.

Dear Andrea,

Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. From our days at UT until we worked together as Financial Advisors, I always found Dave to be a shinning star. I will miss sharing our faith together. Nothing can fill the void of a missing loved one. I like to remember the good times. Dave once told me one of your children asked him, “since you work in a cubical for an insurance company, are you like Mr. Incredible?” Although he may not have had super powers, he was always proud of his family. If we can help in any way please give us a call. God Bless.

Dave was always thoughtful and friendly. Anyone could see that Dave was a good father. We were so pleased when we found out that Dave was our son's soccer coach this fall. We recall Nathan saying, "Coach Woods said I was one of his favorites!" Dave regularly encouraged Nathan and it meant a lot to him.

The fact that Dave will be missed is certainly an understatement. Our daughter Rebekah is especially concerned about Kristen since they have been friends for so long. Andrea, we promise to keep you and your children in our prayers. We pray that God Almighty will protect you, give you comfort, and provide a peace that only He can give.

Love,

To Dave's Family,
It is with deep regret I heard of Dave's passing. Although I grew up and graduated from high school with Dave nearly 30 years ago, I still thought of him, especially when the song on my MP3 player, "Pop Music" by M, would play. He loved that song.

Dave had a terrific smile that I will never forget. His ability to persevere through the difficult challenges he faced, humbled me as he walked his journey to be the best version of himself.

Know that the entire Woods family is in my thoughts and prayers. And for Dave, may the sun and moon be replaced with the light of Jesus' face.

November 11, 2010

To the Woods Family - So sorry to hear about David. Dave was such a wonderful upbeat Man. Over the years, Dave always seemed to pop in my mind and bring back great memories as a kid. With our deepest sympothies - Dave Kent and Family

Please accept my heart-filled condolences Andrea, Corey, Kristen, and Bradley. The many friends of our beloved David are praying for you, and asking the Lord to give you strength. Dave, you will always be remembered in our prayers and in our hearts! Please remember us in yours, as you smile down on us from Heaven. I will always remember your kindness, laughter, and Friendship, over the many years. You always managed to make everyone smile. You could always be counted on to break the ice with your laughter and quick wit. I have learned many things from you over the years, thanks for teaching me what is important in life! Simple phrases that come to mind when I think about you: Live simply and appreciate what you have, Free your heart from hatred - learn to forgive, Give more - Expect less, Remember yesterday, dream about tomorrow, but live today. Every time I hear "Simple Man" on the radio, I have to smile and think of our retreat, and how you changed my life. You taught me how to forgive, and I am full of gratitude forever. You have been one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. My CRHP Brother, You will be sadly missed my Friend!! May your soul, and all the souls of our faithful departed, through thy Lord's mercy, rest in peace. Our Father has called you home. Rest now, and dwell in the House of the Lord forever. Your work in this world is done, and a fine job you did. I will always cherish our friendship, and the impact you made in this world is greater than you could ever know.

A POEM FOR DAVE

D-id all he could for our youth,
A-nd tried to bring them truth;
V-ery sensitive & loving man,
I-nvesting good was in his plan.
D-ecided and pursued education,

W-here he found his vocation;
I-n light of all he went through,
L-ove was what he tried to do.
L-iving with his own malady,
I-s challenging and hard to see;
A-fter all that he faced in life,
M-ost of all he loved his wife.

W-hen it comes to AA family,
O-nly God’s love we can see;

I knew Dave from a CRHP team that we were on together several years ago, and to this day he never once hesitated to give me a big bear hug every time he saw me. What love he had in his heart. During those times we spent together he was truly suffering, but fully committed to keep up the battle and turn his life around in the name of Jesus. As I saw his progression and his victories turn his struggles into joy I was so dramatically inspired that I quickly followed his lead, never hesitating to rely on him for advice and prayers. Today I am nearly 6 years sober, am engaged to be married, and am a blessed man, largely in part to the caring, loving, amd genorosity of David Woods my friend. I know you're in heaven, we will meet again. Thank you.
