David Latson Young

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Young of Merritt Island, Florida, formally Guilford, Connecticut, who left us on February 12, 2025.

He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, esteemed sailor, devoted friend, and a dedicated entrepreneur.

David spent many years as the proud captain of the 75-foot yacht Coastal Queen, serving a private owner and navigating the waters with skill and precision. He was a cherished member of Sachem's Head Yacht Club in Connecticut, where he spent most of his life, developing lifelong friendships and a deep love for the water.

A passionate sailor, Captain David was a prominent figure in the Sonar Fleet, participating in Sonar Regattas up and down the East Coast, At only 2 weeks old David put his son Duke on a Sonar spinnaker bag for a Saturday race at Sachem's Head. From that moment all he knew that they would share an unbreakable bond over their love for sailing. Duke and David would constantly discuss regattas and Wednesday night races. Duke would talk about Marblehead races and always have a good laugh talking about the good tacks and the big miss steps that happen all too often in high level sailing competitions.The love they both share for this sport was infectious, and they both are known for their commitment to the racing community, always eager to share their knowledge and expertise with others.

Throughout his life, David was also a dedicated entrepreneur, building and growing his businesses with the same passion and determination he applied to his sailing career. He embraced every challenge with unwavering drive and a sense of adventure.

Together with his wife, Robin, they spent 25 wonderful years on the water, enjoying a life full of love, travel, and shared experiences. Their journey together was a testament to their deep connection, and the sea was their constant companion.

David leaves behind a legacy of joy, love, and adventure. He will be remembered for his unwavering passion, kind spirit, playful sense of humor, and the indelible mark he left on everyone who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents Father Charles T Young (of Brooklyn NY) and his mother Marion N Andrews (of Long Island NY). He is survived by his beloved wife, Robin, his son Duke, his wife Chantel (of Salem MA), Daughter Danielle Michaud (of Merritt Island) Grandson, Dylan, brother Skip Young (of Guilford CT), and sister Lavinia "Vinnie" Young Davis ( S Carolina).

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on March 29, 2025 at 1845 S Tropical Trail Merritt Island, FL 32952. Flowers can be sent to above address.
