Dawn Hurt Obituary
Marie, 45, born on 28 March, 1975 died on 29 November, 2020. Her parents were Wade Hurt and Yukie Hurt. She is survived by her brother John (Dia) Hurt and two nieces Naima and Amaya Hurt, her Uncle Tom (Susan) Hurt, her Aunt Anita (Hugh) Yarbrough and her cousins Dona Yarbrough and Samantha Hurt. She is also survived by her parents and several aunts, uncles, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Japan.
Marie was born in Columbia, SC. She also live briefly in Orangeburg, SC and Auburn, AL. But she spent most of her life in Gainesville, FL where she attained a BA (English) and in New Orleans, LA where she attained a MS (Criminal Psychology). In New Orleans her life work was for nonprofit community action organizations. She was very dedicated to the people for whom she worked (mostly from the lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans) and they will miss her.
There will be no public services noting her death. Her family will have a private celebration of her life. Marie's sunny disposition and dedication to duty will be missed by all who knew her. Marie's flame burned too bright to last long.

I am truly saddened by Marie's passing. She was a loyal and true friend to me and believed in me why others did not. She spent her life empowering others and giving everything she had to justice. My life and the lives of so many others are enriched for having known Marie. My prayers and deepest condolences go out to her family.

I am so grateful that I got to be friends with Marie these last few years. I had so much fun. We went to movies a lot. Movies will never be the same without Marie's quips and insights that I never got. She was so smart about the world and people. I will miss her so much.
