Dawn (Miers) Neilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2024.
Dawn Rae Neilson was called Home on September 5th, 2024 in Sun Valley, Nevada at 61 years young surrounded by her husband and three daughters after a five year battle with Alzheimer's dementia.

Dawn was a vibrant, loving, and compassionate individual who beamed a spark as bright as the morning sunrise. She gave truth to her namesake "the beginning of happiness" and those around her always felt how compassionate and caring she was. Dawn was extremely devout in her faith until her last breath escaped her and now she is resting in Heaven with God and his angels.

Dawn was born in Portsmouth, Virginia March 26th, 1963. She was raised in a military home and moved around during her childhood as the eldest of her four siblings Tad, Scott, Marsh and DeLacy. Dawn met Tennas Neilson in 1981 while attending Blackfoot High School and started dating shortly after and were married in March of 1983. No time was wasted before they started their family and welcomed their three children into the world. Together they moved throughout Washington from 1985 until relocating to the Reno area in 2020. Dawn loved to help people and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019.

Dawn is survived by Tennas Neilson, her devoted husband of 41 years. Her three daughters Jamee Neilson (David Torres) of Goodyear, AZ; Corinna Neilson of Yelm, WA; Cassee Davis (Robert Davis) of Harrison Township, MI. Her seven grandchildren Mitchael, Malaki, Neco, Jazlyn, Markael, Raedon, and Skiela. Dawn is preceded in death by both of her parents Edwin Miers Jr. and Wilma Miers.

There are no services planned at this time as these were Dawn's wishes. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your favorite Alzheimer's charity.

I always loved when Helen and Eddie came back to Springfield and I got to see my cousins. Dawn will be missed. As we spread out all over the country as we got older I loved seeing pictures and hearing from my cousins. Hugs to all her family.

As a child she took me and her oldest daughter with her to work to volunteer. It made for some lasting memories and gave me, at a early age, a sense of deep compassion for others. She was a wonderful mother and wife and my childhood is full of memories that include her. I'm so sad to hear of her passing. I send my heart felt condolences to her Daughters, her Husband and all of her Grandchildren. I'm praying for comfort and healing for your hearts.

Thank you Dawn for being there, for opening your beautiful heart and letting us all - - letting me - - in. Thank you for sharing your beautiful smile with us. You always made us feel better just by being there. Some days weren´t always great but having your smile and kind heart made us know things would be ok. That will always, always stay with us.
