Dean E. Ten Bruin, Sr., age 75, of Spring Grove, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Dean was born in Chicago on Thursday, February 12, 1948, to Ralph and Charlotte (Ryan) Ten Bruin. Before settling in Antioch, during his childhood, his family moved to Chicago, Colorado Springs, CO, and Lowell, IN. He was a graduate of Antioch High School, class of 1965. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served our fine country for nearly four years being honorably discharged in 1968. On September 19, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Linnea Christensen.
Dean began working for Intermatic, Inc. in Spring Grove in 1971 where he worked his way up from material handler to buyer. After 42 years of service, Dean retired in April 2013. Dean and Linnea moved to Spring Grove in 1976 as he always loved living in "the country". He served as a volunteer fireman with Spring Grove for a number of years and was the President of the Spring Grove School Board as well as serving on the Spring Grove Zoning Board of Appeals.
Dean was especially fond of cutting the grass and golfing, so living in the country gave him many opportunities to do so. He taught his two sons to play golf and they shared many wonderful golf experiences together. He also enjoyed going bowling. Dean was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of All Saints and he provided an invaluable lifesaving service to his community by consistently donating blood at Versiti Blood Bank in Crystal Lake. A true family man who loved his wife with his whole heart. A loving, caring and involved dad to his children and a proud and doting grandpa. His sudden passing has left a huge void in the hearts of his family as he was loved beyond measure and his memory will be treasured forever.
Survived by his wife, Linnea; sons, Ralph (Jan), Dean, Jr (Casey); 4 grandchildren, Cooper, Madeline, Riley, Charlie; brother, Wayne Ten Bruin; sister-in-law, Debbie (John) Lewis, nieces, Tammy, Natalie (Michael) Unes; aunt, Gloria Lowe; and many cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL.
Friends and neighbors may greet the family from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Lutheran Church of All Saints, 5800 State Park Road, Fox Lake, IL.
