Dean Evans Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2024.
Dean Russell Evans passed away on July 26, 2024, in Vero Beach FL., at the age of 63. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Rebecka "Becky" Evans, his mother Ernestine Bair, his sisters Joanne (John) Morris and Kathy (Jim) Pattison. Dean is further survived by nieces and nephews.

Dean was born on May 8, 1961 in Clovis, New Mexico, to Ernestine and Russell Evans. Dean entered the hospitality industry at an early age, as a dishwasher in restaurants on the Jersey Shore. Always a steadfast and hard worker, he rose quickly through the ranks to line cook. At the age of 34 he decided to attend the Florida Culinary Institute and earn his degree.

Dean's love of culinary excellence enabled him to serve Oak Harbor Club, in Vero Beach, as the Executive Chef for 25 years. While there, he was privileged to represent the Club in Vero's Homeless Family Centers Top Chef's Competition two times. Both times he won.

While attending Florida Culinary Institute Dean was introduced to the art of carving ice. Instantly smitten, ice carving became a major part of Dean's life. In collaboration with his wife, he created Vero Ice Sculptures, which served the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas.

Dean was an avid lifelong Las Vegas Raiders fan. When not at work he spent his time with his family and his beloved dog Guster, following whatever current news he could find on the Raiders. He enjoyed a good game of poker and played whenever he could. Dean was well known for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. A kind and generous man, he was an inspiration to many and will be sorely missed.

I've always felt a special connection to my youngest brother, Dean. I cherish many memories of him as an infant, toddler, and young boy. What is most striking to me when I reflect on the time we lived together as siblings is Dean's gentle spirit and impish sense of humor. His kind, sensitive nature was reflected in his empathy for others and absence of judgement or bitterness when wronged. Dean was generous with his time and attention always remembering details about my life, staying connected across the miles, and patiently sharing cooking tips and advice when asked! I admired Dean's determination to create a successful and distinguished career in the culinary arts and am impressed by his accomplishments. I feel blessed to be Dean's sister, to have loved him, and to have been touched by his loving kindness.
