Dear Family, I don't know Dean's family but he and I went to Larned High School together. After graduation we lost contact with each other, but the memories we shared are quite vivid. In auto mechanics class, Dean and Dave Hammond were sitting on top of a tractor, honing the cylinders, using a hugh hand drill (2 handles) when suddenly the process stopped but the drill continued to turn, throwing Dean off one side and Dave off the other side..to the floor. We didn't let them forget it for a long time. They got their revenge on me later at Dean's farm, riding horses in the pasture. We were herding some cows toward the barn. The cow I was pushing to go faster, decided to break from the herd. I did not know I was riding a cutting horse and their revenge was sweet as I went flying straight ahead and the horse followed the cow! Dean and I had many great times together. I can't remember a single time that he was angry at anyone.
I did visit with Dean at our 50th year class reunion, but not long enough. Was going to call after I read about his problem but put it off too long....my loss!
After reading his obit and viewing the photo gallery, it leaves no doubt that his life was full of love with a family who loved him very much. What more could you ask for. He will be missed but not forgotten. Merle Shaw, [email protected]
