DEAN MATTERN Obituary

Dean G. Mattern, 82, New Smyrna Beach, died Sunday, September 25, 2011. He was born to John and Nina Mattern, the youngest son of seven. Dean graduated from Westlake High School and married his childhood sweetheart Nancy Moore. He started working in construction with Jack Moore building, remodeling and repairing homes until his retirement. He also formed Mastercraft Insurance, Appraisal and Repair company. He retired in 1993 and moved to New Smyrna Beach. He and Nancy enjoyed travelling extensively in their RV. Dean's family remembers him as a true, kind and gentle man. He leaves to cherish his memory his lifelong companion and wife Nancy; sons Dean and Debra Mattern of High Point, NC, Craig and Jane Mattern of Tucker, GA, Kent and Kay Mattern of Deltona, FL; sister Mary Heitmeyer of Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Sandra McDaniel. Special thanks to a friend and caregiver Regan O'Rourke. He was deeply loved and will be missed.
