Mary Louise McEachern Begley

Begley, Mary Louise McEachern 88, of Beattyville, Ky., and St. Petersburg, died July 26, 2007, at a daughter's home in Tampa. Mary, an RN, graduated from the nursing program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, in 1942. She was serving as a World War II Naval nurse when she met her husband, Clarence, in Guadalcanal. They married in 1945 and moved to Beattyville. During her nursing career, she worked at the Owsley County and Lee County health departments. Mary was a founding congregational member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, and an active member of the Beattyville Women's Club for many years. In retirement, Mary was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital for over 15 years. She was a member of the St. Petersburg Woman's Club, where she actively supported the protection of the historic home, which continues to be their meeting place today. Mary was a member of St. Rafael's Catholic Church, St. Petersburg. Survivors include her sons John of Beattyville, and Bill, of Winchester, Ky.; her daughters, Rosemary, of Villa Hills, Ky., and Libby, of Tampa. She had 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Beattyville, with burial following in the Riverview Cemetery.
