Deborah Benson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2020.
Deborah Denise Benson passed away peacefully while her oldest daughter held her hand, on Friday, May 8, 2020 at PeaceHealth SW Washington Medical Center.
She had survived several serious medical conditions over the years but was unable to recover from this non-Covid related illness.

She was born in Vallejo CA on January 10, 1951 to Patsy and Bobby John Lucas. She was sister to four brothers: Ron Lucas, Don Lucas, Bill Lucas and James Broder as well as half sister to Cyn Uehara and William Andrew, her father's children.
She is survived by her three children, Daughter Layla A. Baldwin, Daughter Arletta Quadro and Son Donald Benson Jr. whom she had with her former husband Donald Benson Sr. She had four grandchildren, Mikki Garcia, Ashley Hopkins, Austin Quadro and Cody Quadro. She also had one great-grandchild, Leon Garcia. She was a second mother to Linda Wilcox, Terry Baldwin, Donna Oakovich, Robert Bright and a Nana to Raul Garcia.

She was also Grandmother to her 125 lb American Rottweiler Grandpuppy Zeus who loved her just as much as she loved him. Her morning routine of giving him a cookie each morning will continue with her oldest daughter Layla, with whom she lived for the last seven years in Vancouver WA. She was a kind and loving Mother, Grandmother, Nana and Great-Grandmother to all.

She shared a close friendship with Robyn Brown Novak for over 30 years. They loved to spend time together and go on trips such as to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, a cruise to Mexico and a trip to Hawaii where she visited her half-sister Cyn and half-brother William. They also enjoyed the Rodeo in Yuma AZ, mostly recently in February 2020, where she also attended the Howling At The Moon event with Robyn, her former husband Don and his significant other Marie.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also loved to read and watch Murder Mysteries. Every year she would gather the family for Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patrick's Day, which she so looked forward to.

She was a caring and gentle soul, loved by all who knew her. She lives on in our hearts and is sincerely missed. Although her wings were ready, our hearts were not.

We were friends through jr high school(Springtown) and best friends in high school (Hogan). I have so many good memories that I hold dear towards my friend. I spent more time hanging out at her house than my own at times. And we always have the memory of that party we threw at her house when her mom was out on a date, that went all bad, and we both got into so much trouble. But hey that was just part of being a teenager.
She will continue to remain in my thoughts and my heart 4 ever. I LOVE YOU DEB

I am so glad I got to meet you again when you visited Hawaii. I am so sorry we didn't have more time to get to know each other better. I will miss you my sister and tell dad we miss him.

Layla and Arletta, we are sending a card.

Didn't get to hang out with Debbie a lot but when I did it was always fun with her and Robyn. So sorry for your loss, thinking of your family.

She was also an AMAZING Aunt. She made me feel loved. She was kind, loving, considerate and FUN!!! I recently spent the night at Layla's house and we went out for breakfast. Aunt Debi showed up as we were getting ready to leave and we ended up drinking tea and talking for an hour. I absolutely adored her and one of the things that made her so special was the way that I knew she adored me in return. She was never anything but kind and wonderful and loving and I will miss her everyday. I feel really grateful to call myself her niece.

One of my favorite memories is hearing her defend my dad on the phone to a person who shall remain unnamed. It was so boss. I will miss you and your laugh, Aunt Debbie. Lots of love to you all. - Paola
