Deborah Lloyd Darter

Deborah Lloyd Darter, 70, of Raleigh, NC died peacefully Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Duke Raleigh Hospital with sisters Jane and Anne and longtime friend Camille Patterson at her side. She was diagnosed with atypical Parkinson's in August 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Nancy Darter and is survived by sisters Jane Darter of Chapel Hill, NC, Anne Darter of Raleigh, NC and many cousins and their families.

Deb was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in Hartsdale, NY. She graduated from Manhattanville College in 1975 and Indiana University School of Law in 1983. She was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and maintained an active license until she retired in 2017.

She was employed at PBS North Carolina in 1988 and worked in various capacities including development, personnel, and programming until she retired.

Her interests were numerous and included music, movies, gardening, current events, and sports. She listened to Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders and Broadway show tunes, she was a fan of Alfred Hitchcock, the Harry Potter books and The Federalist Papers. She grew grape and cherry tomatoes, and she cheered for the UNC TarHeels, the Indiana Hoosiers, the NY Giants, and Peyton Manning. If you knew Deb, then you knew her quiet voice, her good humor and sharp wit, her intelligence. And you knew her gentle soul.
