Deborah Green Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 16, 2024.
Deborah "Debby" Green, age 75, of Westbury, NY, formerly of Lynbrook, NY, passed away on January 12, 2024 following several months of medical challenges. She was born on December 11, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY to Samuel and Edith Weisman (Greenberg) and grew up in Flushing, Queens. She attended Francis Lewis High School and later pursued higher education at SUNY Stony Brook, receiving both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Throughout her career, Debby worked as a teacher, in public relations, and held multiple roles in the service industry. She took on all jobs, big or small, with pride and 1000% effort. Debby was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family and especially her four children fiercely.

Debby was a strong, caring, independent woman. Above all else, she was generous. For decades, she opened up her heart and home to anyone in need of a holiday meal, a place to stay or a family to love. Considered a "second mom" by many, her loyalty, kindness, and unmatched generosity were given freely, without expecting anything in return. She always put others first, repeatedly opening her doors to welcome loved ones to stay for weeks, months, and even years. Debby had a special love for dogs and all animals, especially her beloved Maltese, Sammy. Her giving nature showed in the many hours dedicated to volunteering and helping rescued animals.

Debby's strength and endless determination carried her through life's ups and downs. She took on her biggest and final challenge with the same bravery, grace, and dignity that made her the unique and beautiful person who is loved by so many. Sadly, her entire heart, mind, and soul were not enough to overcome the physical limitations of her illness. Debby passed away surrounded by the love of her family and friends. In true Debby fashion, that love will surpass her lifetime.

Debby will be remembered for her unwavering devotion and generosity. She was taken from us too soon, but leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness that touched countless lives. She is survived by her brother Barry Weisman; her daughter Jessica Kelly (Green) and her husband Michael Kelly; her son Justin Green; her son Darren Green and his wife Nora Falvey; her son Steven Green; her niece Margaret Weber (Weisman) and her husband Brian Weber; and her granddaughters Josie, Lana, and Florence. She is also survived by many loving cousins and friends including her lifelong best friend and "sister" Wendy Eakin. Debby was predeceased by her parents.

Family and friends are kindly invited to join the immediate family for a service to remember Debby on January 25th at 1:00 PM at Gutterman's Funeral Home in Rockville Centre, NY. Internment will be at Wellwood Cemetery in West Babylon, NY following the conclusion of the service.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations to the following charities in Debby's name are appreciated: Bobbi and the Strays (www.bobbiandthestrays.org), North Shore Animal League America (www.animalleague.org), or The American Parkinson's Association (www.apdaparkinson.org).

Thinking of you all on this anniversary. Reflecting fondly on family gatherings in Debby´s yard and home when we´d come to visit Abe, Norma and Lissa.

Debby and her family graciously opened their home to many Camp Westmont counsellors, saying that visitors from overseas would expand their children's perceptions of the world. I still cherish my time with the family in the Lynbrook home. Condolences from Melbourne.

I have had many Thanksgiving dinners but the one I remember the most was when Deborah invited our family to join them in New York. Deborah shared her home and and her food with all of us and it truly was the best Thanksgiving I have ever had. I am glad I got to meet such a beautiful and kind person. When we were leaving the following day she wouldn't let me leave the house without a sandwich for the road. I am truly glad that our families crossed paths and that I got to meet such a wonderful person.
