Deetria Horne Obituary

Deetria Shante' Horne
September 21, 1976 – May 28, 2017

Authentic, Fun-Loving, Inspirational, Passionate and Brave to the end. These are but a few of the traits that capture the life and spirit of Deetria Shante' Horne.

Many will attest that the most genuine woman in the world has transition from our lives.

Deetria (Dee) Horne was born in Waco, Texas on September 21, 1976 and passed away on a beautiful day, May 28, 2017. The birth and death of this great woman, however, are not nearly as relevant as all the days and nights that she lived to the fullest in between.

Dee was intellectually gifted and had a tremendous natural artistic ability. This marketing manager, who was a talented graphic designer and expert project manager, was a 1994 graduate of Fort Worth's Eastern Hills High School and attended Prairie View A & M and the University of Houston.

She didn't deliver 'just average' at work, in love or life. Everything she did was over the top. She loved music, she loved the outdoors, and she loved to laugh!

Dee's mantra was "I will live and not die" --- meaning she was not going down without an all-out fight. When her beloved mother, Diann, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, Dee donned the figurative boxing gloves, fiercely prepared for a bout with the disease that came for her mom. She cared for Diann until she was declared cancer-free in 2010.

When breast cancer came for her in January 2012 at the age of 35, Dee declared #IAmWell-Being. At which point, the dynamic duo of Diann and Dee returned to the battlefield with faith and confidence. Dee was a fighter to the very end. It didn't matter how hard it got, she would find her inner peace, summon strength and keep pressing forward. In fact, Diann had Dee four precious years longer than doctors had predicted. The power of faith and love can defeat any foe.

LEGACY
This valiant only-child was swathed in the love of her devoted mother, Diann Smith (Eugene), the drive to persevere was embedded in Dee's DNA. She was strengthened and encouraged by the support of her wife, Shana Shaw, and children, Able Shaw, Ahshaye Shaw and Alyria Armstrong. Her aunts, Sandra Horne and Judy Brookins, were a significant part of her caretaker team throughout her journey.

She's also survived by her father, Arthur Haywood; grandmother, Inez Daniels; grandfather, Peleton Horne, Jr.; half-sister, Juanita Haywood; nephews, Nyzaiah Haywood, Nasiyah Bates; niece, Zaniyah Bates; godson, Tarmarick Williams; and a host of family and friends who were a part of Dee's village of support.

EXPRESSIONS OF SUPPORT
In pure Dee fashion, she would not want anyone to waste money on flowers for her Celebration of Life service. Dee believed in and supported the work of the American Cancer Society and was named a 2015 Portrait of Hope Ambassador for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. Please make donations to ACS in her name in lieu of flowers. Please visit http://main.acsevents.org/goto/hopeisdope

More importantly, Dee would likely (strongly) suggest that you plant flowers in own your gardens, spend time with your family and loved ones and live each day to the fullest. Sow love and life in this world as much as you can, for as long as you can.
Deetria Shante' Horne lived a full and happy life, and we are honored to celebrate the dash between the day she entered this world and the day she left it. We encourage you to do the same by joining us on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, to honor this great woman.
A come and go reception will be hosted from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The Celebration of Life Ceremony, honoring Dee will begin promptly at 6:35 PM. Dee's family and friends will share cherished memories during the ceremony. Doves will be released immediately following celebration ceremony in Dee's honor, representing love, peace, and hope.

Our Father in heaven,
I'm so grateful for all You had given.I come before You to pray, especially on this very day,as I recall my life journey
with someone whom I love so dearly. She's a rival, yet a friend, like a sister as well.Help her out in times of trouble,
strengthen her faith through all the struggle. You made her become a better & wiser, spouse, mother, daughter, sister,
and to the world around, let her be the salt & the light that shine..
Guide her in doing her calling,
may onto You she will always cling.
God, I do acknowledge,
having her as a sister is a privilege..
Thank you, Father,
Please accept this simple prayer,
in Jesus name,
I proclaim..
Amen.

Dear Diann, I met Dee at one of my granddaughter Elena' birthday parties which she had helped plan. Her spirit of fun and the obvious love she had for my precious Elena instantly endeared her to me. I admired and respected her even more after reading her story of determined strength battling cancer. Though some may say she lost her battle with this evil, dread disease, I say she triumphed by not allowing it to rob her of her spirit. Your daughter is a great woman and her legacy lives on in our determination to overcome this horrid enemy. We will continue to fight in her name. I know we will see her again and in the meantime am sure she is up in heaven planning fun stuff for the angels! Comfort and peace be yours and may our loving God sustain you in times when our efforts fail to comfort you over your great loss.

Her "dash" between 1976 and 2017 was lived to the fullest. I will always remember her flute playing, especially those times it transcended time & distance because I'd hear it from miles away during times of silence, just letting me know she was always there. I'm honored to have called her sister, and though her amazing physical presence will be missed, her loving spirit will continue to be felt as she keeps watch from her heavenly castle above.
