Delfina De La Rosa Obituary

DELFINA DE LA ROSA (nee ELIZONDO) Of East Chicago passed away December 20, 2003. She was born in Dayton, Texas, the daughter of David and Maria (Lopez) Elizondo. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Reynaldo; three devoted children, Ana Maria (Dr. Stephen) Grandfield of Ogden Dunes, Reynaldo (Kimberly) De La Rosa Jr. of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Dr. Rebecca De La Rosa of Avon, Indiana; five grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Jennifer) Grandfield, Victoria Grandfield, Cassandra (Gary) Dennison, Reynaldo (Christina) De La Rosa III and Madison De La Rosa; and three great grandsons, Nicholas and Christian Grandfield, and Gavin Dennison; two sisters, Eva Cortez and Estella Cantu; one brother, Arturo Elizondo, all of Mercedes, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. As Delfina progressed through the effects of Alzheimer's disease, she was lovingly cared for by Glenna Amburgey of Porter, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, David, Conrad, Raul and Francisco Elizondo; and one sister, Francesca Yanez, all of Mercedes, Texas. After working a combined total of 20 years as a school aide at West Side High School in Gary and then Washington and Roosevelt High Schools in East Chicago, she retired in 1990. Delfina was a member and past officer of American Legion Post Auxiliary No. 485; a charter member and officer of The Texan Club, a social and philanthropic organization; an active member of the Democratic Women's Club of Northwest Indiana; and supportive in parish and school functions. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. with a viewing at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick Parish, 3810 Grand Blvd., East Chicago, Indiana, with Father Fernando De Cristobal officiating. Interment St. John-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 24, 2003 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland Ave., Gary, Indiana. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday. An expression of sympathy may be given to St. Patrick Parish or a charity of one's choice.

My deepest sympathy to Mr. Ray DeLaRosa and family. I knew her for a short time, she was a beautiful person. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
