Herbert Wayne Smith

Herbert Wayne Smith, age 77, of Churchville, MD, died on April 1, 2011 at his home. Born in Galax, VA, he was the son of the late Hagar and Ethel Amburn Smith. A member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ, the American Legion Post in Bel Air, and the Moose Lodge in Hickory, he was a retiree from Baltimore Gas and Electric, and a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, cook-outs, and took pride in his lawn. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jane Smith of Churchville, MD; son, Jimmy Dean Smith and wife, Vicki, of Darlington, MD; sisters, Marie Combs and Elsie Leagan, both of Galax, VA; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Frink of Churchville, MD, and Alicia Nicole Gainey of Havre de Grace, MD, Jimmy Wayne Smith and Brenda Nicole Smith, of Darlington, MD; and great-grandchildren, Ronnie and Brianna Frink of Churchville, MD, and Sophia Smith of Darlington, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Stevenson and Deborah Kaye Smith; brothers, Ernest Ray and Nelson Gray Smith; and sister, Ruby Parks. Pallbearers were Jimmy D. Smith, Jimmy W. Smith, Ernest Smith, Franklin Curry, Ronnie Frink, and Brian Dixon.
