Delores Sims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2023.
Delores (Dolly) Sims, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away on May 18th, 2023, at the age of 83 in Covina, California. Dolly was born on May 11th, 1940, in the United States, and she lived a full and joyful life surrounded by her loved ones.

Dolly was a kind-hearted and sociable person who loved spending time with her family and friends (and her beloved doggies).

She was always there for anyone who needed her and was a friend and a mother figure to many, taking in strays (people and pets) her whole life.

Dolly was involved in various community activities, including being a Cub Scouts Den Mother and a Blue Bird/Camp Fire Girls Leader. She was also a member of a bowling group, a Red Hats ladies group, and enjoyed playing the slot machines in Vegas (as she called them--one-arm bandits). She loved road trips with the family when the children were young and her husband would drive the family (Dad, Mom, and all 4 kids in one car) to visit family back east. Later, she enjoyed cruises with friends.

In honor of Dolly's wishes, there will not be a public memorial service. Instead, her immediate family will gather privately to honor her memory. They invite you to leave comments and goodbyes for her on this site, as they look forward to reading your fond memories of her.

Dolly's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, niece and nephews, and all those whose lives she touched.

I remember Aunt Dolly's smile and vivacious, loving spirit from my childhood. She and Uncle Charles would pack up the family in the Summer and drive to visit relatives. Family car trips (from California to Tennessee and back with stops in between) could be challenging, but Aunt Dolly always seemed to take everything in stride with laughter and assure that everyone was having a great time. My mother and Uncle Charles were siblings. We were one of the stops along the way in Houston and enjoyed taking visitors to Galveston. These trips were illustrations of the fact that great family memories are made by the efforts of wonderful parents.
Aunt Dolly's love lives on through those she touched and left with sweet memories. RIP, dear one.

My dear sweet grandmother was one of the kindest women I knew. As a child, grandma's house was a place for family gatherings and for us kids to play. As I grew older I would visit my grandma and have sleep overs with her and my cousin, where we would stay up all night playing card games and Mexican train. Once I was old enough to drive we had many road trips to Arizona to visit family. My grandma has always been one of my biggest fans, primary movie date, and person I'd go out to get food with.

The best motto my grandma left me with was live, and let live.

I will miss you my love. May you be having a party with your loved ones you have joined.

I remember Dolly with a smile on my face. My brother, Carl, husband Mike & myself made many trips to Dolly & Charles house in Covina. As many of you know it was a small house but she always had a spread layed out for us when we got there. It was a home filled with love & laughter. She had a big heart & loved her family, immediate & extended!

Also, I want to let you know that my mother passed in her own home in hospice peacefully at the end with her loved ones spending her last days with her constantly. She was loved and cared for in her last days by me, her son Charlie, her daughter Dolly, her granddaughter Ashley, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Diana Sims. We are all so glad we were able to be with her and show her our love as she made her journey.
