Deneice Snow

Alta Deneice Truman Snow, age 76, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, in St. George, Utah. She was born in Enterprise, Utah on March 23, 1936, to Alma Truman and Alta Holt Truman. She was married to Dexter C. Snow on August 12, 1954 in the St. George, Utah temple by Pres. Harold S. Snow.

She was raised in Enterprise, Utah until the 8th grade when the family moved to St. George where she attended the local schools and graduated from Dixie High School in 1954. She married Dexter C. Snow that summer they were called in the U.S.A. Air Force and sent to Hill Air Force Base, Utah for a two year tour of duty where he was a Lieutenant working in the procurement division. Her son Devery Clinton Snow was born on June 21, 1955 at Salt Lake City, Utah and became the highlight of her life.

They moved to Salt Lake City and she auditioned for the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir and was accepted. She was, at that time, the youngest member of the Choir. The director Richard Condie liked her and made her feel very special and loved by him and the entire choir. She was the first choir member from St. George and the cameramen loved to have her on camera and that gave the family here a great opportunity to see her in the broadcast each Sunday morning. This also gave her the opportunity to meet and be personally involved with the Prophets including; David O McKay, Joseph Fielding Smith, Harold B. Lee, Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson, Howard W. Hunter and Gordon B. Hinckley. For many years she was seated directly in front of Jesse Evans Smith and enjoyed her great talent and sense of humor.

During the many years she was a member of the choir she sang under the direction of several directors including; Richard Condie, Jay Welsh, Gerald Ottley and special programs both in Salt Lake City and New York under the direction of Eugene Ormandy. The choir also gave her the opportunity to sing in most of the great concert halls of the world like Carnegie Hall in New York and George Albert Hall in London and the Lincoln Center. She also sang with the Choir on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City.

In 1960 they moved to St. George and she had her daughter Diane on October 18, 1960. She was helping work with Dex at the family grocery store and this sort of interrupted the Deer Season work at the store, but Diane was well worth it. She has been the pride and joy of Deneice's life.

When they moved back to Salt Lake City in 1970 she again joined the Choir and was able to travel extensively with the Choir. In the early period they traveled across the US by train giving concerts in most of the major cities of the country including St. Louis, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, Toronto , Chicago, etc.

Later they traveled to Mexico City to the first area conference. Then they went to the Washington DC temple dedication, to Calgary Canada and on the grand tour of Europe. They had a special group of Altos that became lifelong friends and created a bond that has endured through the years. The choir membership was a highlight experience in her life for which she has always been very grateful.

Deniece was the helpmeet and companion to Dexter as he moved the family from Salt Lake City to St. George then back to Salt Lake City. On to California for a brief period then home to St. George for another few years then off to Las Vegas for several years then back to St. George where they have been residing. In each of the places they lived she created great friendships that continued to keep them in contact with those people and the area throughout her life.

During these years she was active in several business ventures and held her own real estate license and worked with Dexter in the businesses.

Deneice was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Church over the years. She was in the Primary, MIA and Relief Society organizations and was both Stake and Ward Relief Society Presidents and was the chorister for most of these organizations for over 50 years. She also worked in the temple and has served diligently in each of the callings she has been given.

She is survived by her son, Devery C. (Kelley S.) Snow and daughter, Diane S. Hoefelmann; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, A Delmont (Karol) Truman, Lonnie H. (Leslie) Truman; sisters, Ada Jane (Leland) Kleinman and Margaret Marshall; brother-in-law, Brent (D'on) Snow; and sister-in-law, Sheron (Richard) Hafen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dexter C. Snow; and her sister, Carolyn T. Adams.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Foster Hills Ward Chapel, 912 S. 1740 E. (on Foremaster), St. George, UT. There will be a viewing Friday, December 7, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Spilsbury Mortuary 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and a viewing on Saturday at the Foster Hills Ward Chapel from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services. Interment will take place in the St. George City Cemetery.
