Denise D. Gosselin, 69, of Hooksett, died January 12, 2002, at Laurel Genesis Health Care. She was born in Manchester on March 5, 1932, the fourth of seven children to Emile and Eliane (Demers) Duval. She graduated from St. George High School in 1949 and was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame College in 1954. She married Arthur Gosselin, Jr., at St. George Parish in 1955. Denise earned a master's degree in French literature from Rivier College in 1975. She taught school in Hooksett for over 30 years until her teaching career was ended abruptly by the onset of Parkinson's disease. She taught reading at Hooksett Village School and later at Hooksett Memorial Junior High where she introduced and developed the French language program. She mentored many aspiring student-teachers and hosted french exchange students. She also sponsored and chaperoned annual, spring, class-trips to Quebec City and Montreal--trips her students often remembered as a high point of their public school experience. Music and theatre were an important part of Denise's life. She began her public singing career as a soloist on WMUR radio station at the age of nine. A gifted coloratura soprano, she developed her singing and stage talents starring in many theatrical college productions at Saint Anselm College as well as presenting well-attended concerts at Notre Dame College. She was well-known for singing at weddings and religious services throughout the area for many years both solo and with her long-time singing partner and friend, Henri Marchand. Denise also gave frequent concerts of classical and popular songs and performed in many local theatre productions. She lent her knowledge of stagecraft and music to Immaculate High School productions and continued her vocal and musical training with Sister Cecile of Notre Dame College throughout her life. Denise is survived by a loving family, her devoted husband of 46 years, Arthur Gosselin of Hooksett, two sons, Arthur Gosselin of Candia and Peter Gosselin of Hooksett, a daughter, Camille Brown of Nashua, her daughter-in-laws Colleen and Nancy, her son-in-law Barry and their nine grandchildren, Christie Gosselin, Stephanie Gosselin, Danielle Gosselin, Emily Brown, Nicole Gosselin, Angela Gosselin, Alex Gosselin, Olivia Brown and Rebecca Gosselin, two brothers, Dr.Robert Duval of Manchester and Bert Duval of St. Punta, Florida, two sisters Frances Sopel and Alice Pierce, both of Manchester.
