Dennis Bloh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2024.
Dennis M. Bloh, born on September 29, 1950, in Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024.

Dennis was the beloved husband of Christine Bloh (née Gorman) for 45 years and a devoted father to Kelly Beck (Eric) and Thomas Bloh (Jennifer Nobles). He is also survived by his siblings Stephen Bloh, Joanne Porter, Jacqui Bloh, Michele Trageser, Virginia Jacobs, and Timothy Bloh, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Edith Bloh (née Wallace), and siblings David Bloh, Susan Bloh, Geraldine O'Brien, and Barbara Willetts. Dennis cherished his lifelong friendships and the many connections he made throughout his life.

A dedicated educator and lifelong learner, Dennis graduated from St. Joseph's Prep in 1968 and earned degrees from St. Joseph's University in 1972 and 1976. He completed Rutgers Law School before being admitted to the Bar in 1983 and later achieved another degree from LaSalle University in 1993. His passion for education spanned four decades, beginning at St. James in 1973 and Archbishop Prendergast for Girls in 1978 before dedicating the final 31 years of his career to LaSalle College High School. Beyond teaching, Dennis was deeply involved in extracurricular activities including coaching bowling, golf, forensics, wrestling, theater productions, and contributing to the historic LaSalle swim team. Each Christmas Eve for many years, he selflessly drove students participating in Operation Santa Claus to distribute gifts through CYO.

Dennis also had a profound love for theater. Over more than 40 years, he directed, acted in, and produced over 70 productions at schools and local venues such as the Players Club of Swarthmore and Upper Darby Summer Stage. He also served on the Barrymore Awards committee, attending and judging professional productions across Philadelphia.

A visitation will be held on January 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at LaSalle College High School's Marian Chapel (8605 West Cheltenham Avenue, Wyndmoor, PA 19038), followed by a prayer service.

Dennis's legacy of learning and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. Donations to LaSalle College High School, Players Club of Swarthmore or Fox Chase Cancer Center would be appreciated.

Mr. Bloh was my absolute favorite teacher at Prendie, I was in the class of 1982, he gave me confidence when I needed it and helped me grow as a person. He did a summer program for the county which I belonged to helping a shy girl come out of her shell. I became an English teacher because of Mr. Bloh, he was someone I have thought of over the years. I pray for his family as I know what a special person he was God Bless and thank you so much for everything. Patricia (Muzikar) ODonnell

Dennis was my 11th grade English teacher at Prendie and I loved his class. He was funny and kind. He made school a great place to be. Rest in peace Dennis and prayers to his family.

I first met Dennis when we were both teaching as adjunct English instructors at Peirce College. Within two years, both of us were on the faculty at La Salle College High school with our desks next to each other in the English department office. Over the past 40 or so years, Dennis became one of my closest friends in education, and I was able to see almost daily how kind, generous, and caring he was to everyone he met, especially the students who needed some encouragement or fatherly guidance. We spent a lot of time talking about theater, films, books, our families, just life, as well as the young men we taught. I will cherish those conversations forever. I'll miss you DB.

Mr. Bloh was the Bonner/Prendie Forensics coach during my Freshman year. He wasn't coach for my entire time but he made a wonderful impression on me. He had the best qualities a coach should have. He could draw out your strengths and make you overcome your shortcomings. I am unable to attend the memorial but please know that I will remember him fondly.

Mr Bloh was the absolute best! He did more for me than I even realized until way after graduation from Prendie in 1986. What a generous, loving and truly one of a kind man. You will be missed, Dennis Bloh

Dennis was my friend for close to 50 years. His loyalty was unshakeable, his kindness and generosity ever present, his intelligence and wisdom a valued resource, his humor and wit a source of laughter and strength. He was also a man of many talents and abilities which he willingly and unselfishly shared with me and many, many others. I hope Chris, Kelly, Tom, and the rest of the family find comfort in the many memories Dennis left behind. Dennis, you will be missed. You made a difference my friend.
