I am saddened this Labor Day Monday, 2022, after an internet search to catch up with a former civilian coworker from the United States Military Entrance Processing Command headquarters at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago -- to learn the man who hired me as a graduating senior at Northwestern University had transitioned on my birthday, March 12, 2019.
I spent two years working with Dennis in the marketing section of the testing directorate, and life in the office or on TDY was never a dull moment with Dennis. He would introduce you to everybody that he knew and then would engage in interesting conversations that were so engaging you had to wrap it up over a lunch or a dinner.
Dennis had a gift for taking difficult topics and bringing them down to a level that most everyone could understand. By the time I left USMEPCOM I had developed my own 30-second elevator speech on psychometrics with educators and school board members, with Dennis giving his trademark link through his glasses and I was on target.
If our conversations were not about marketing the ASVAB to schools, then it's always had a new life story update about Carm and the kids, his church community it is very tight Deerfield Wisconsin married friends (move over June and lol).
I will always be grateful for Dennis for giving me a job that allowed me to finish my 30 credit hours to graduate, and trusting me enough to go on no fewer than 20 educator conventions to Market the ASVAB.
To God be all of the glory, honor, and praise for allowing my path to cross that of an extraordinary man named Dennis, who it always introduced himself as Dennis Gaynor, just like Mitzi he'd always add.
