Dennis L. Hand

Dennis Luke Hand, age, 76, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday April 9, 2017 at his home. Dennis was born July 30, 1940 to Earl and Margaret Peg (Harris) in New Bedford. His family moved to Natick, The Home of Champions when he was a young child. One of his favorite childhood memories was building a boat with his Father, which sank on its maiden voyage. He lived most of his life in Natick and Framingham. Dennis graduated from Natick High School in 1958 and from Northeastern University in 1963. He was in the ROTC Program with the US Army, and upon graduation from Northeastern began active duty, serving as a 1st Lt. with the 299th Engineer Battalion. He served in the Vietnam War, 1965-66. In 1962, Dennis married Nancy (Neitz) Hand, with whom he had two Daughters, Marlene and Jennifer. With much sorrow, they also lost two infants, Colleen in 1963, and Peter in 1968. He later met, and then married Jeanne (Blinder) ( Lubofsky) in 1983. She was truly the love of his life. They spent many happy years together, going on cruises and attending Jimmy Buffett concerts. Sadly, Jeanne passed away in 1997. Dennis was a Civil Engineer; he worked for CT Main, Sasaki and VHB, all in the Boston area before his retirement in 2002. In his younger years, Dennis enjoyed snowmobiling on Lake Maspenock with extended family. He was active in the Framingham Lions Club, serving many a hot dog with his former Father in Law and best friend Dick Neitz at Bowditch field football games. He was a Past President 1971-1972 and was also named Lion of the Year in 1973. Dennis was a longtime of friend of Bill W., and touched the lives of many as a sponsor in A.A. He ran five miles every day until he was 62 and loved all New England Sports Teams. Dennis will be deeply missed but also remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, his love of singing, his great hair, and his favorite quote - It is what it is. Dennis was predeceased by his Parents, Peg and Earl, his Daughter Colleen, his Son Peter, his wife Jeanne, his former Father in Law Dick Neitz, and his Brother in law Jeff Garino. Dennis is survived by his Daughters | Marlene Weinert and her Husband Mike of New Port Richey, FL, Jennifer Lawrence and her husband Brian of Centerville. Grandchildren, Alex Weinert of Underwood, WA, Joshua Weinert of Candler, NC, Casey Weinert of Tampa, FL, Shauna Lawrence of Chestnut Hill, and Brian Lawrence Jr. of Centerville. Siblings Kathie Morrissey-Lotane of Ashland, James Hand and his wife Uleta, of Ashland, Maureen Hand of Medway and Pati Garino of Milford, his Former wife Nancy, and many nieces and nephews. Dennis Family would like to thank the Staff of Harbor Point in Centerville for the wonderfully kind and compassionate care he received there during his residence. He was truly at home at Harbor Point, surrounded by so many that loved him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 8:00-9:30 am at Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street Framingham. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday April 18, 2017 at St. Linus Catholic Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick. Burial following the Mass at Dell Park Cemetery, 163 Pond Street, Natick.
