I am so sorry for your loss. I served with Dennis on board the USS John F. Kennedy (73-76). I met Dennis in Aviation Ordnance School in Jacksonville, FL in 1972. We visited Disney World in Orlando one weekend and camp in Dan Robbers car. We went to Air Launch weapons school in Norfolk, VA right before we both signed on board the JFK in March of 1973. We were best friends until I married and we gradually grew apart, but I never forgot what a wonderful person he is and was. He helped me put my first 8 track tape player in my 1972 Chevy Nova...Dennis was a Nova man too, he had a 1965 Nova. Gosh he made me laugh and was a true friend and I will never forget him. I always prayed for Dennis and his family each time a memory of him came to mind...and that was often over these last 50 years. God bless you my friend and may the Lord our God bless you and keep you forever more. Tom

Many friends come into our lives, but only a few leave with their footprints on our hearts. The Herring family was my second family. When I was growing up, I spent more time at their house than my own. Dennis was like an older brother to me. When I think back about Dennis, I remember his smile and always giving advice. Growing up in the 1970’s and 1980’s with Dennis was a lot of fun. I remember all the times Dennis would try to make his cars go faster. When you are a kid it is fun and excitement to go for a ride in his Plymouth Duster after he got done fixing it. I will always think about all those good times growing up with Dennis, Thanks for those memories.

Dennis was a childhood friend and neighbor. Some of my earliest memories are of him owning and riding his British made BSA Motorcycle. It was a beautiful motorcycle that he really loved and took good mechanical care of. I fondly remember listening to all of his Navy travel stories on board the Aircraft Carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) When I was in my mid twenties. We spent a lot of time together at a local park called Kennedy park to play Powerball together. Those were some very good fun times and years together I spent with him. I have very good memories of him and will miss him. I only wish we got a chance to see each other in our later years. I know you are comfortably now in the arms of our redeemer Jesus Christ / Yahshua the Messiah. I look forward to spending eternity with you having fun again in our new glorified bodies when we all receive them together hopefully in the near future. I love you brother this is just a temporary good bye and we will all see each other again soon.

My kids always loved visiting Grandma and Papa Dennis. They still talk about his “big breakfast” - It was the best. And then there was the KIMBOWA Hut. Singing and listening to music all night long. Thank you Dennis for always being so good to me and my kids. We love you and will miss you.

Growing up we always knew Dennis as grandpa Dennis. He always made sure their home was open to us no matter the time and day. I remember waking up at 6-7am to his legendary breakfast; eggs, bacon, sausage, grits and of course pancakes! He would literally just sit back with a hot coffee in his hand and watch us all gobble down the feast he made with a HUGE smile of joy on his face! He always made jokes that would make the entire room bust out in laughter. Entertainment was definitely Dennis’s cup of tea. I remember clear as day, Dennis bringing out his guitar and teaching us how to string and sing. He’d tell us stories for hours about his past and showed us pictures of proof of it all. Grandpa Dennis always had a smile on his face and that’s the face I’d like to remember because that was HIM; a funny, loving & kind person. We love you and miss you.

I will always remember your sense of humor and your love of all the grandchildren, nephews, nieces and children in general. They all loved coming to see you on the property. You would make them feel so special by making them things, rides on the tractor, golf cart or the motorcycles. They will always remember you playing the guitar and singing for them. I will always see that Dennis smile and all the wonderful times we shared as brothers. You are and will be missed dearly. I will see you again brother. I love you.
