It has been a long time since I talked to Dennis, but when my mother told me of his sudden passing, I very sad. I mostly remmember him from back in the 16th avenue playground days. He was a nice guy, a funny guy and a good friend to my brother Ed Farrell and all those other nice and funny guys from a different time and age. That is how I will remmember Dennis.
I am very sorry for your loss!

Our deepest and sincere sympathy to The Hornak family. I have known Dennis my entire life as have my children. We all knew him in different roles but the feeling was the same. Wheather he was "Dennis" or Coach "Den" he was always a good part of our lives since I can remember and he will be remembered fondly.

Julie,
Only you can know the shock I felt at hearing of your loss of Denny on Monday. What a great guy.
You may not have known him, but Denny always reminded me of a young 'Poss' Leskanic; athletic and softspoken, yet always keeping his eye on the things that mattered: his love of the people he surrounded himself with, and Denny only hung out with those that were the 'salt of the earth'.
Denny, we'll sorely miss you, there aren't many left down here like you . . .
Julie, If there's anything we can do, just call.
Love, Mike and Pam Terrick

Julie and the Hornak Family,
My family will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. I have known Coach Den for 17 years as a player and as an assistant coach with him for the past 4 years. Den was a person that always kept me smiling throughout the "long" seasons. We will all miss his sense of humor, hilarious antics on the sidelines, and his comical comments that he shared. More importantly, Den ALWAYS did something that many people never do.....he always put the feelings of others before his. Coach Den was loved by all of his players and friends. We will miss you Den and I'm sure you will be with us in the coaches room when we are all sharing stories and having a good laugh. God Bless!

Dennis will be sadly missed by all of us who shared our lives with him as members of the Steel Valley class of 1972. We prized his friendship. What a blessing to have been able to all reunite with him just a few weeks ago at our 35th reunion. We will carry his memory in our hearts, and keep a place for him always as a precious part of our Steel Valley Class.

I don't know if you remember me but I worked for South Hills Health System Finance for 9 years down at Homestead. It was always good to talk to both of you and I really missed everyone when the building closed.
I was very sorry to hear of Dennis' passing. If there is anything I can do (just listen) just give me an e-mail.

Julie, Mrs. Hornak, Ronnie and extended family,
My sincere condolences with the passing of Dennis. I attended St. Anne's Grade School and Steel Valley with him. Whenever I would run into him he always spoke so highly of his you, Julie, and his family. I just saw Dennis at the class reunion and the last thing he said to me was "take good care of yourself, I mean it"; this was so typical of him, thinking of others.
Ronnie, I want you to know Dennis told me how much he thought of you, 'what a great man you have become'. He loved you and his family very much.
I went to Church to say a prayer for Dennis and while there I thought he is already with the Lord and the Lord knows what a good and special person Dennis is. He had a wonderful soul......

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the Hornak family. I played for Coach Den and coached with him at West Mifflin. Coach Den was always there with a friendly smile. He was hard working, dedicated, loyal and respected amongst his players and coaching staff. This is truly a great loss. This time coach we are all saying "Oh Boy".

Losing Dennis in just unbelievable to me. I loved him, he was wonderful, generous, caring and so giving. We were blessed to have had him as a friend. I have many wonderful memories of the talks we had and the good times. I've known him for many, many years and will miss him terribly. I do believe that Bogie greeted him at the Rainbow Bridge and that they are together.
My deepest sympathy to his family and close friends, who he considered family.
