Dennis Lynch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 1, 2024.
Dennis Eugune Lynch, a beloved husband, father, gramps, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on December 20th, 2023 at the age of 65. His passion for life, matter-of-fact sense of humor, and his overall love will never be forgotten.

Dennis was born in 1958 in Santa Barbara, CA to John and Mary Jo Lynch. He attended SDSU on a track-and-field scholarship where he competed in the long jump. It was here he and some friends started their band, "The Small World Band." A music enthusiast, Dennis was the lead guitar player and he and his band performed in venues large and small. The group still remained close throughout the years.

Dennis later worked at a Smithkline Beckman Instruments where he forged relationships that would last a lifetime including his wife, Lisa.

Dennis and Lisa continued to live in Southern California until the early 90's. Soon after the birth of their son, Dillon, they decided to start their own business, Hazardous Disposal Specialists. In the 32+ years since opening their doors, HDS has been a very successful business for them and continues to support their customers in environmental compliance.

Once they settled in Truckee, CA in 1997 Dennis was active in his community-from coaching his sons' soccer teams, to sponsoring and organizing a local softball team, The Toxic Avengers-Dennis never turned down an opportunity to spend quality time and make memories with those he cared about. You could always count on Dennis's sense of humor to bring smiles to a crowd, usually by way of a dad joke. In addition to his fun demeanor, Dennis had a knack for throwing exceptional parties!

Dennis loved the outdoors and the rich history of the Truckee area, and instilled that appreciation onto his sons and the rest of his family members-going on hikes to Maiden's Retreat and Mt. Judah were always on Dennis's agenda. He also took great joy in riding his bike around town.

Dennis was an admirer of nature and music, a proud patriot of his country, and above all, he cared deeply about the people closest to him-a family man in every aspect.

Dennis will be sorely missed by all. He was preceded in death by his son, Dillon in 2020, survived by his wife, Lisa; his sons Jesse & Austin, nephews he helped raise Bryar & Aaron; his siblings Mary Jo, Pat and Celeste; his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on February 8th, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Grace Church, Reno, NV followed by an off-site reception. For those who would like to pay their respects to the family please email Austin ([email protected] ) for more details.

I first met Dennis Lynch during our Freshman year at San Diego State University in 1975 or so. I was playing solo at the weekly Hoot Nights at The Backdoor, and some mutual friends thought that he and I should meet because he was a guitar player looking for someone to jam with and we were both writing original material, so we met. We jammed. We got along great and began collaborating on original songs together. We decided to add a female vocalist (Eva Beim) and call ourselves Small World. We began gigging regularly at the Backdoor and other campus venues. Then at the end of 1976, we added a drummer, Michael DelGuidice, and a bass player, Darrell Plue, and changed our name to the Small World Band, and for the next three years, we became the main party and bar band around San Diego, mixing our originals with some well-chosen covers. We eventually disbanded and went our separate ways. Then we started having reunions in 2011. Several, in fact. One was at his home in Truckee, where he had a home studio completely outfitted so we could spend the entire weekend jamming. Another, we all stayed at Le Parc Hotel in West Hollywood. Another, we rented a funky home in Del Mar. Eva joined us for that one, a surprise arranged by Steve Brent we thought would never happen.

We always hoped to continue getting together regularly but alas, it was not to be. This week, we learned that Dennis has left the building. I can only pray he has found peace. I will always treasure the memories we shared over nearly 50 years. Keep those you love close. Safe travels, Big D, Den-Guy, Muff. You will never be forgotten.

Me deepest condolences to the family.

Dennis introduced his son Jesse and best friend Martin snowboarding in local mountains of Southern California in 1990 and we fell in love with the sport. I remember him taking us on so many trips through the years when we were kids. I will forever be grateful as still 34 years later my love for the sport and the mountains are close to my heart and this will always be remembered as a memory of Denise. He was like a second father to me in my childhood and will be forever missed but our memories will live forever.

I first met Dennis in 1977 while working at San Diego State University health center. We started talking about music. And he told me he was in a band called Small World With 2 other people, Steve Goldstein and Eva Beim. I asked if they needed a drummer. He said yes, and from there we had a lifelong friendship. Dennis was the best man at my wedding. And a lifelong friend. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Such a wonderful neighbor and friend. We spent many years enjoying all the activities in our neighborhood. Dennis was famous for his annual Cinco de Mayo party. Such fun and fond memories. Love and tears,
