Dennis Meckel Sr.

Dennis Wayne "Pete" Meckel went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 2, 2017. He passed peacefully at his home in New Braunfels, TX at the age of 82. Born to Frank and Ada (Schaefer) Meckel in Comal County, TX on August 28, 1935, Pete was the youngest of four children. He spent his childhood enjoying the great outdoors, camping, fishing, swimming, horseback riding and especially hunting. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy, after serving he married Dorothy Crider in September of 1956 and had five children. Together they raised their children in New Braunfels, TX but later divorced in 1976. He spent time as a fireman, even as a rodeo clown, but is most well known as a very talented carpenter opening Pete's Cabinet & Trim Shop in 1975. Born again in Jesus on May 12, 1975 he quickly became active in church and a short time later met his wife Nangeline (Schuerg) Meckel of Luling, TX whom he wed on June 22, 1980. Together they were always very active in church, the Healing Rooms and were always ready to pray for anyone in need. Pete and Nan enjoyed 36 years of marriage together celebrating their large family and countless friends until her passing in December of 2016. Pete was a man of God, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a blessing to all who knew him and will be deeply missed. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nangeline Meckel, brothers Lawrence Meckel, David Meckel, and son Robert Schuerg. Pete is survived by his sister Gladys Krause, children Cherrie Langerhans (Joe), Dennis Meckel Jr. (Marjorie), Jeff Meckel (Cindy), Patty Meckel, Linda Meckel, Christina Meckel, Alvin Schuerg (Cathy), Nanette Murray (Harvey), as well as 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 2 pm at Freedom Fellowship Church located at 410 Oak Run Point, New Braunfels, TX. 78132. Burial will immediately follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Reception to follow at Freedom Fellowship Church.
