I never got to know Heavy' as well as my other friends did. But I did get the opportunity to spend some time with him at Denison during parent's weekend, at the Jersey shore back in the summer of '98, and occasionally when I got the opportunity to stay at the Nicholas' home (or at the guard gate) when I visited Brendan.
When I was lucky enough to spend some time with Mr. Nick he was always spirited and the life of the party. He was also generous, hospitable, quick-witted, and loving. But what I didn't get to know about him I learned through his kids Bethy, Jeff and my best friend Brendan. They are amazing people and so much of the greatness I saw in Denny shines through with his kids and all the amazing things about him I never got to experience is clear in the qualities of his children.
Mrs. Nicholas, Katie, Brendan, Jeff, Beth and the entire Nicholas family, I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your father. If there anything my wife Kristen and I can do to help in your time of mourning, please let us know.
Love,
Jerry Griffin

Denny was a great guy and a dear friend for 35 years. I feel blessed to have known him ! Doubly blessed because I had the privilege of teaching his children and now, a few of his Grandchildren. Denny was a fun loving guy and his memory will live on in the hearts of his dear wife and family.

Though I never got the chance to meet Denny in person, I feel as though I know him. I could always feel the love they shared when Bernie would tell me stories of how, they met and came to spend their lives together, and the pride he felt for his children. I could also feel the way he cherished his grandchildren in these stories and my heart breaks for the whole Nicholas family. I am sure he will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy and my prayers go out to you all.

Nick,
You will always be in my thoughts and prayers from the time we spent together. You were a great friend and a family man and the ultimate Philly Sports fan. You never gave up and never gave in and I enjoyed the time we spent together. You were a very positive person even when Temple faced Notre Dame and you chose to root for Temple. (I know you took some heat for that). You touched my life and I will be forever grateful for the time we spent together. Rest In Peace and Fly Eagles Fly.

On behalf of the many friends Dennis "Nick" made while in NJ, I send you our heartfelt condolences. He was a part of our family as well and an avid sports fan, taking great pride in Villanova's Championship last year and always talking about his beloved Eagles! Our course his greatest pride and achievement was that of raising his wonderful children and doting over his grandchildren! Bernadette, you were his passion and his life, so much so that at sunset he would look to the setting sun in the sky and know that you were doing the same, so that the two of you could share that moment.
Dennis leaves a wonderful legacy; that of a caring, supportive family who will always remember what a wonderful man he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My fondest, funniest memory is babysitting the Nicholas kids every summer. Denny used to tell me not to let them play outside because it was too hot and they would get all sweaty. I'd take them out, let them run around, squirt them with the hose, and eventually bring them inside. They'd be all showered and sparkling and sworn to secrecy when Denny got home!!!! Love your family and I know you have great memories!

Our hearts grieve! Denny and Bernie are the epitome of a beautiful marriage; sweethearts and friends! As a member of the Welcoming Ministry at St. Norbert Church, Denny was always ready to greet and usher with a smile that would warm the hearts of all who attended. Denny also had the most positive attitude of any one we know. He was strong and courageous, loving and kind, a proud husband and father and grandfather. We will miss him! Rest in peace.
