Honoring all the fallen United States military members past until present. SPC Pratt, we served in basic training and advanced training at Fort Sill. I used to do push ups with my ruck sack on. We talked about protein powders. Very likable person, disciplined, kind, and never had bad attention on you. Thank you for paying the ultimate sacrifice for me and the United States of America. Rest In Peace brother. May God bless you and your family.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

I am very sorry for your loss. I began my Works of Heart project for families like yours. I offer a free pencil portrait to Oklahoma military families who have lost someone in this war. It is just a small way I can say “Thank you” and “I’m sorry.” Master’s House Framing in Moore, Oklahoma, is generously providing their framing services for this project.

I would very much like to draw David for you if you are interested. Just contact me at [email protected]. My website shows my "Works of Heart" soldiers I have drawn www.amycwhitaker.com.

To the parents and family, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I know only too well what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Grief is an individual journey, that unfortunately like my own self you now have to travel. It doesn’t matter how they died but how they lived that we should focus on. We know that each one in our military joined to make a difference in their own lives and to serve their country. Please know that each one no matter what is an American Hero and to be honored always and forever. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to hold your hand as He gives comfort to you today and for the rest of your life.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Spc. Pratt is a true American hero. I weep for every person who sacrifices their life in the line of duty, and for their family and friends. The loss is great, but be assured that Dennis will always be remembered by so many - as Will Rogers said, "We all can't be heroes, somebody has to sit on the curb and clap." Today I applaud your son and all the others who so proudly serve our great country. God bless them all, and all of you.

To the Pratt Family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. Dennis shall never be forgotten.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

Every second you sacrificed
I hold you in my prayers.
So with one hand on my heart and the other in the air;

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you.

July 29, 2009

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms PFC Dennis Pratt. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dennis. And to Dennis it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Dennis, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dennis’s family and loved ones.

We first met Dennis at our son, Jason's, house. Dennis and Jason were friends from the start when Jason and Melissa moved to Arizona. We would see Dennis many times at Jason's when we visited there. Dennis was always there to help with whatever was needed. He had an enthusiastic work ethic that was exemplary; I'm sure his superiors in the Army recognized this trait in Dennis from the start. It was clear that he put 100% into everything that he attempted.

Dennis had an enormous appetite;he loved food and my wife, Carol, enjoyed cooking Italian specialties for him. Dennis' favorite was Eggplant Parmigiano. In May 09, we mailed a box of goodies to Dennis; he conveyed his appreciation to us for the package and we were pleased that we made his time in Afghanistan a little lighter.

Sadly, we were jolted when our son called us on July 24th to announce Dennis' death. My wife is particularly heartbroken...he was such a fine young man. We will miss his smile, his conversation, and his love of life. We know he was proud of his Army career; he was doing what he enjoyed. We will always keep Dennis in our hearts.

In the few times I had the pleasure of talking with Dennis, he struck me as a genuinely great man through and through. His heart was full of joy as he expressed love for his family and friends. His dedication was unwavering, as was his passion for reaching upwards and onwards to better life for himself and his family. His chosen purpose in life was a rare but wonderful one, being dedicated to enriching the lives of others whether by defending our freedom or bringing a ray of sunshine to everyone's day he came in contact with. Wherever he is, up in heaven, I believe he still has that grin which brings a smile to anyone's face. He was a ray of sunshine wherever he was then, and I believe he is a ray of sunshine wherever he is now.

To his wife, the kids, and all the family members an friends who knew him may God be with you during this difficult time. I only had the pleasure of conversing with Dennis a few times, so I can only imagine the amount of pain you all must be going through.

The grin we'll never forget..

Always bigger than life.. he was a dear friend and a wonderful father. I hope he knew how much he meant to his daughter.. he was her idol and hero.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear about Dennis. Dennis is such an incredible guy who is truly a genuine person. He is so friendly and fun to hang out with, and truly a great friend. I was so proud of him serving our country. It's just too bad that we no longer share a life with him. Dennis, we love you with all our heart and will always have you in our thoughts....

Dennis was one in a billion, with a big smile and even bigger heart. Although he lived short life, it was rich with experience and meaning.

I am proud to have known such a hero.

Dear Michelle,
I am so very sorry for your profound loss. I will always remember the going away party we shared together at our home with you, Dennis and your little boys before you moved away. Tim is so hurt, and is mourning the loss of his dear friend by listening to the music that they both loved. He will miss the letters that they shared. I believe he thought of Dennis as a brother. Dennis was never shy about telling his friends how much he loved you, Michelle. May Christ comfort you in your time of loss. "For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows." 2Cor 1:5

RIP PFC Pratt..it was a fine thing that you did in these times where so many do not. I'd like to offer my condolences to the family at this horrible time. We lost our son in Iraq 2-24-08. We are on the same trail, we are just farther down it that you folks are. if you need to talk to someone who's been there, my wife and I would be glad to be there for you. [email protected]

I am ever so humbled by the GREAT sacrifices our 'Protectors' on active duty make for each of us, daily. I feel Jesus stood up, as He watched Dennis approach Heaven.. The two of them together understood self sacrifice for those you love. "Thank You Dennis from my heart and spirit for the things you were doing for me, by your dedication to our Military."
