Dennis Raphael Obituary
RAPHAEL, DENNIS, R., 63 - of Northfield, quietly passed away at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a brief illness, Dennis entered into his rest. He was born on February 13, 1945, in Colon, Panama, where he was affectionately known as "Ruddy" by his family and friends. Dennis graduated from Pleasantville High School in the Class of 1964, where he was a member of the school band under Mr. "C". He attended and then graduated in 1970 from Cheyney State University where he majored in Spanish and Education. An accomplished drummer, Dennis played at several clubs on Kentucky Avenue. Dennis had been teaching Spanish for over thirty (30) years. After eighteen years of teaching at Oakcrest High School, Dennis retired this year, 2008. Dennis leaves to cherish his fond memories his devoted wife, Ramona, whom he met and wed on December 30, 1979, in the Dominican Republic. He is also survived by his two children, Wellington (Kimberly) of Philadelphia, and MaiDenise of Miami, FL; his mother, Jean C. Raphael of Pleasantville, and his father, Almon H. Raphael, Sr., of Pleasantville; siblings, Patricia Thomas and Almon H., Jr., both of Galloway; his two grandchildren, Wellington, Jr. "Knucks" and Noah "Gaku"; his nephew, Ezzel Thomas of Galloway; niece, Precious Jewel Raphael of Atlantic City; Uncle James Allen of New York; Aunt Sylvia Sealy of Venezuela. He also leaves behind a host of cousins and friends along with special friends, Leon Johnson of Maryland, Cortez Brown of Egg Harbor Township and Mark Kwame Freeman of Boston, MA. The family will receive friends at 10AM on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Faith Baptist Church 829 Tilton Road, Pleasantville. The service to honor the life of Dennis R. Raphael will begin at 11AM. Arrangements by Greenidge Funeral Home (609-345-6305).

MR Raphael was my teacher in oackrest for Spanish i still remember he used to play color me badd in class we used to hate that song but we all loved MR Raphael especially when he got a pair of rottweilers and he gave me the female because he knew i always wanted it a rottweiler and he always told me that his dog was the stupidest dog he's ever seen and i used to tell him that my dog was stupid to it's so sad to hear his passing i will always remember MR Raphael that was that one teacher that one teacher that touches your life someway you can't explain but it does thank you for the high school memories and my rottweiler

I'm gonna miss Mai saying" Hold on, this is my dad...." And him saying "Oh, your at Aisha's house.... is that the one with the baby or the one you use to live with??" lol
He could never remember that I was the same person. And those drums......boy did we love those drums Mai!!!
You have always been in my prayers and will continue to be. I'm proud of you through this tough time, you've shown great strength.

Dennis you are a great person to everyone else. To me you are more then any words I could write on this page. My kids have so much love and respect for you. It's an honor to tell people that you are my Father .
Our time together was cut short but this is not the end for us .

Dennis and I taught next door to each other at Oakcrest for many years until I retired. I truly respected and loved this wonderful man. His death is a loss not only to his family, but to so many of us.

My condolences to the family of Dennis Raphael. I was fortunate to not only work with him at Oakcrest, but to be his friend as well. I will always remember his deep, warm laugh, his wonderful smile and his hugs when I needed them. He always called me "Sis", and I will greatly miss my "Brother." I cherish the memories. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so much for your prayers and thoughts.. i will miss him dearly and especially when he would call me atleast 4x a day to just say hello... i still find myself waiting for him to come home, but i know he is in a better home...God is taking care of my daddy...

I just want to give my deepest sympathy to give Mr. Raphael's family and friends. Your are in my thoughts and prayers. He was my Spanish teacher at Oakcrest in 2000. He was an awesome person and a great teacher.

First I would like to thank those who are honoring Dennis in this guest book. Dennis was my father-in-law and my two boys were his only grandchildren. He loved them immensly and they loved him as much. He was a great father, husband,grandfather and father-in-law. His laughter,smile and kindness will be missed but most of all we will miss him. We will always keep his memory alive.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis a few times while he was planning for his retirement. We chatted quite a bit during his visits to our office, and he struck me as very warm and kind. He was so proud of all of all his dedicated years of teaching. My sympathies to your family at this difficult time.

MaiDenise has been my daughter Erika's best friend since kindergarden. Dennis and I exchanged many phone calls deciding which one of us was "going to take them and which one was going to pick them up" from wherever. Dennis looked after Erika like she was his and for that I will always remember him. He was truely a great father. My thoughts and prayers to the family, especially MaiDenise.

Dennis was a customer of the bank that I work for. I have known him for a few years now. He was a very sweet and caring person. He will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
