Dennis Renk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2025.
Deacon Dennis Renk, 83, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Palmetto, Florida. Born on August 17, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Dennis lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Dennis began his education at St. Augustine grammar school and high school in Chicago. He continued his studies at Quigley Seminary before attending Richard Daley College. His early path led him into the Franciscan order, where he nurtured a strong spiritual foundation that would guide him throughout his life. Though he eventually left the order to marry and raise a family, his commitment to his faith remained steadfast. This devotion culminated in his ordination as a permanent deacon, through which he served his lifelong parish and community with humility and dedication.

Professionally, Dennis found his calling in food service. He began as a chef at a hospital, where he quickly rose through the ranks to manage the kitchen operations. His responsibilities included overseeing ordering and crafting daily menus-roles that showcased both his culinary skill and organizational talent. Later in life, he transitioned into sales for a food distributor on the South Side of Chicago, bringing warmth and professionalism to every interaction until his retirement.

Dennis was predeceased by Kathleen, his beloved wife; their son Dennis Jr.; his parents Catherine and Anthony; and brothers Terry and Tony. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Beach and her husband David Beach; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren-all of whom carry forward the legacy of love and strength he instilled.

Outside of work and ministry, Dennis embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid bowler who also enjoyed bingo nights and card games-especially canasta. A lover of words, he spent many hours reading books or solving word search puzzles. In earlier years, he could often be found bicycling to Marquette Park or savoring Chinese cuisine-simple pleasures that brought him joy.

Dennis was known for being deeply social and actively involved in both church functions and community events. His presence brought comfort to many-a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant of God, and cherished friend.

A private service will be held at a later date.

May the memory of Deacon Dennis Renk bring peace to all who knew him and continue to inspire those whose lives he touched through faith, kindness, and unwavering dedication.

I remember serving w/ Dennis at St. Augustine. I read the scripture at Mass and sometimes helped w/ Communion. Dennis served as a Deacon. He was the 1st permanent deacon I got to know and serve with. The last time I saw him was at a gas station in Richton Park. May he rest in peace.

Dennis the Menace, as he called himself
The man I knew, was very spiritual and charming.
Every time he saw me, he told me how much he liked my pretty smile
