Dennis Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 9, 2023.
Dennis Rolland Turner, also known as Denny and "Dennis the Menace" passed away on December 5, 2023, in the arms of his loving wife, at his home in North Fort Meyers, FL. He was born on September 8, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. Dennis leaves behind his loving wife Linda, whom he shared his life with for nearly 22 years. He also leaves behind his step-daughters Natalie (husband Markus, grand children Rachel, Henry, Jenny) and Nicole (husband Jason, grandchildren Paityn, Mark, Daniel, Maggie) his sister Marilyn, several nieces and nephews, and countless cherished friends.

Dennis was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. He was best known for his big heart, surreal silly humor, competitive spirit, fierce determination, and outright kindness and generosity. Dennis loved working on projects on his boat and homes, and would be the first to help anyone with theirs. Those who had the privilege of meeting Dennis will never forget him, he was the life of the party.
He had a unique ability to empower others and inspire them to achieve greatness. His presence served as a guiding light, encouraging others to become the best versions of themselves. Dennis was unafraid to challenge the status quo and go against the grain. He was never hesitant to make waves and leave a lasting impact.

Born and raised in the Detroit area, Dennis attended Grosse Pointe High School and shortly after pursued a career at Detroit Edison as a welder. He eventually earned a Bachelor's degree and became a manager. Throughout his life, Dennis had a passion for sailing and boating. He began sailing at the age of 8 and continued his love for the sport for nearly 70 years. Dennis was particularly fond of sailboat racing and achieved numerous high awards, including winning the notable single-handed race from Port Huron to Mackinac. He embarked on several great adventures from the Great Lakes to Florida, including the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and even Cuba. Dennis and his Lovely Linda then power boated and adventured aboard his beloved 1968 42' Chris Craft Commander, creating lasting memories with their family and friends.

Dennis was nicknamed the Energizer Bunny, reflecting his relentless spirit and zest for life. Dennis had a special bond with his loved ones and enjoyed spending time with them at the Edison Boat Club. He was a decades-long member of the club, proudly serving the US Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1992, and serving as Commodore in 1994. Another highlight were the gatherings at the famous "Fat Table," working and helping anyone around the club, and cruising the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair. He treasured his 14 round trips aboard the Ricochet, from Detroit to Marathon with his best friend Ron. In later years, Dennis and Linda settled full-time in the Florida Keys, where the Ricochet became well-known in Marathon for winning many Christmas Boat Parades.

A Celebration of Life will be held in both Michigan and Florida, with dates to be determined. The details of these services will be announced at a later time.

Dennis Turner will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, determination, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

Jerry and I were saddened to hear of Dennis“s passing. Lots of unforgettable moments....his hilariously funny stories, one liners, welding safety Ladders on the docks. He was forward thinking and creative....finding a heap of metal in a field that turned out to be hydraulic boat lift...persuading EBC members along with the help of Ralph Paschke to purchase this heap of metal which he knew how to reconstruct...the lift was a definite money maker for the club. He definitely was one of a kind that will be remembered and missed. Prayers for Linda and family. Fondly, Cheryl and Jerry Groncki
