SANDY RIDGE — Derek Lee Blankenbaker, 32, of 5196 Highway 704, East, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at home.
A private graveside service will be held for family on Friday, July 9, 2010.
Mr. Blankenbaker was born November 30, 1977 in Rockingham County. A graduate of McMichael High School, he was a self-employed rock mason.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill J. Blankenbaker.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer M. Blankenbaker; parents, Sam Blankenbaker and Lisa Shelton Snow and her husband, John; sisters, Brittany Blankenbaker and Chelsea Blankenbaker; grandparents, Polly Puckett Blankenbaker and Ernest and Linda Plaster Shelton; step-daughters, Megan Priddy and Morgan James and husband, Ryan; and step-granddaughter, Adalyn James.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the residence and the homes of his parents.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. Derek will be missed dearly. I went to school and graduated with Derek, he was a really nice and caring fella, fun to talk to and was always willing to joke, laugh and cheer you up when and if you were down. We will miss you Derek.
