First met and spent time with Derek when his father, Greg and I had an apartment when we were student teaching at a large high school in Indianapolis. Derek loved to hang out. What he loved more were games of all sorts. He was curious about everything. Even at 6 years old, he was remarkably tuned into and understood people. He brought smiles to any face at any time. I last spent time with Derek at a family gathering in Spokane in 2017. His ways had only matured and grown richer. Derek was simply at ease with any group of people, making everyone feel comfortable and sincerely heard. He had a true gift in bringing smiles and laughter to anyone who was lucky enough to be with him.

It was great growing up with Derek, Condolences to all the family!
Memories of Hoops, Wiffle Ball, Hocky, Skiing, Music, many fun times, and catching up from time to time in our Adult life discussing family, friends, and life. Derek had a special zest for life and I´m sure he is sharing to those in heaven while waving the "Hoosier" Nat´l championship flags. RIP Derek and thanks for your friendship and memories
