Derek Lee

Derek was in my class in grade 5 and I got to hangout with him a lot that year and the next years in minnekhada. To this day I think of him and I'd like his family to know he truly changed my life and how I view people with special needs. Derek's smile was all he ever needed to say to us. His smile will always be something I remember. I have my own son with special needs now and Derek is a huge reason why I'm such a strong advocate for him now. Rest in peace buddy. You definitely passed too young but you were loved beyond measure and I promise you'll always be remembered. I just wanted his family to know.

I remember, not long after we moved in, waking up to giggles. I looked out front and saw a bicycle with training wheels but no child. I went to the back window to find Derek happy-as-can-be on the swings in our backyard. I went down and we swung together for a bit and chatted.

I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak you must be feeling right now. I never met Derek in person but what I remember was the picture you had of him on your screen saver. What I keep on seeing in my mind is that great, huge smile he had on his face! You could just feel how big his heart was though that picture :0)
Rey, I know there are no words that can ease the pain you feel but what I know for sure is that heaven will definitely be a sweeter place with Derek there!!!
