Derek Lee Obituary
LEE Derek James (Dude) May 20, 1990 - July 24, 2009Derek, 19, son of Rey Lee and Linda Tinnion, brother of Rachel and Jason Lee. Everyone who met him became his friend. His infectious laugh and smile lit up the room. Derek faced many challenges head on and was an inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 31st at 2:00 p.m. at Port Coquitlam Elks Lodge No. 49, 2272 Leigh Square. 604-942-1345.

Derek was in my class in grade 5 and I got to hangout with him a lot that year and the next years in minnekhada. To this day I think of him and I'd like his family to know he truly changed my life and how I view people with special needs. Derek's smile was all he ever needed to say to us. His smile will always be something I remember. I have my own son with special needs now and Derek is a huge reason why I'm such a strong advocate for him now. Rest in peace buddy. You definitely passed too young but you were loved beyond measure and I promise you'll always be remembered. I just wanted his family to know.

I remember, not long after we moved in, waking up to giggles. I looked out front and saw a bicycle with training wheels but no child. I went to the back window to find Derek happy-as-can-be on the swings in our backyard. I went down and we swung together for a bit and chatted.

Rey,
I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak you must be feeling right now. I never met Derek in person but what I remember was the picture you had of him on your screen saver. What I keep on seeing in my mind is that great, huge smile he had on his face! You could just feel how big his heart was though that picture :0)
Rey, I know there are no words that can ease the pain you feel but what I know for sure is that heaven will definitely be a sweeter place with Derek there!!!
