Derek Wayne Overly, Sr., 61, of Maysville, KY died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center. Mr. Overly was a pipe fitter and a member of Scott United Methodist Church and a veteran of the US Army having served in the Vietnam War and was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He was born in Maysville, Kentucky on July 9, 1953 the son of Hilda Green Hord of Maysville, KY and the late Freddie Overly, Sr. Besides his mother, he leaves to cherish his wife Marilyn Johnson Overly; his children, Kim Commodore of Lexington, KY, Tyra Overly of Maysville, KY, Vincent Lewis of Lexington, KY, Derek Overly Jr, Aaron Stewart (Mary) and Tyreese Overly all of Maysville, KY; his children by a previous marriage Tiffany D. Overly and Derek R. "Cincere" Overly both of Cincinnati, OH; Twenty-four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Maurine Overly and Mona Ray Commodore both of Maysville, KY, Sandy Lang and Bridgett Lang both of Lexington, KY, Freddie Overly, Jr (Diana) of Mt. Sterling, KY, Carl Overly (Beverly), George Hord (Annie), Freddie "Mann" Overly and Daryl Overly all of Maysville, KY. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Hal Hord and grandson Trajon Overly. Funeral services for Derek Wayne Overly, Sr. will be held at the Scott United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM Monday, January 5, 2015 with Rev. James Turley officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gregory Dudley, Randall Thomas, Billy Thomas, Justin Myrick, Chandler Warner and Johnny Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Morton, Dirk Dudley, Kirk Dudley, Hargous Dudley, Gilbert Warner, Stevie Warner, Dwayne Johnson, Gene McCall and Larry Lofton. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 11 AM until the hour of the service. The arrangements are entrusted to the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
